For rust treatment I have lots of experience with converters but mostly OSPHO and Corroseal. After treating with those, I do a primer and then a finish coat. When I had to paint my carport canopy frame that was starting to rust, I thought I would save a step and got this Xionlab converter and primer all in one step. When applying, it went on just like painting with the common red oxide primer often used on steel. My concern was that I could not see the rust getting converted like I do when I use OSPHO or Corroseal. Any converting happening was done out of sight under the primer coat. I did save a step on a difficult to paint structure, but I can only assume that maybe the rust got converted as I do not know. Maybe in a few years I will know, and I will edit this review.

I've used similar products - POR-15, KBS coatings, etc. All of those required the metal to be coated with a cleaner, then a separate rust converter, sprayed down with water and then have the coating applied for the best results. Basically, it was a multi step process. Using this was pretty easy, I've so far used it to cover the interior metal floor of my classic car. The floor had some rust spots (minor) so I wanted to use it to stop the current rust and for future protection. It went on easy and looks great and most importantly I did not have to spray down the interior with the multi step process - the acid converter, the water both of which would have puddled in my floor pans. So far I have no complaints, I cannot comment on the longevity of this product's protection yet - I'm unsure of how well it will protect from future rust but time will tell. -Quantity for the price, you can't beat. -Coated the car well - plenty left over for other areas of the car.

Using to encapsulate & protect rusty metal shingles. *READ* the manufacturers instructions - IF YOU DO NOT TOP COAT YOU *MUST* APPLY TWO COATS of this product - that may effect the cost significantly (see photo of detections from for mfg website). The application is easy & coverage is good - product must be stirred well. Clean-up is easy too. Just needs to soak/rinse alot. I have applied by brush so far, but may try with a sprayer - if a do spray, I will update this review with results.

I have treated rust and painted many things in my many years of equipment maintenance. From road sanders to golf course mowers, there are few things out there more exposed to corrosive elements. But then there are the cars and trucks driven on our Minnesota roads. What you are looking at is an old snowmobile trailer that I hammered and wire brushed thick layers of rust off. When I saw this product on Amazon I thought, let's give it a try. Water cleanup sounded like a good thing. I did a few test patches with a brush. When I first opened the can I thought it was tomato soup, condensed! But stirring softened it up magically. Application with the brush was easy, good coverage, smooth appearance. Today I sprayed the whole trailer (and my driveway). I swear, those paint particles are magnetic! The paint/converter goes on so easy with no hint of a run or adhesion problems. There was no warning on the can that said temperature must be between this and that. It was 41 degrees when I started. That stuff is on there. Time will tell how many years it lasts. It's too late in the year to put a topcoat on this fall unless I can make room in my garage, but they say it is not a problem. I'll have to report back next year.

this product is easy to spray , easy to clean up, doesnt smell too bad .. BUT I sprayed automotive filler primer over the top and some areas did not stay stuck, has several spots that peal up in crevices inside corners and some flat spots. Emailed company for tech support ,, NO RESPONSE ! UPDATE : Xionlab got Emails mixed up apparently . Once reviewed they worked very hard to resolve the issue and give guidance on applications etc. pealing may have been my error, will have to try it again..

I was a little skeptical to purchase this for what I needed it for-but I can tell you I am glad I did. I am currently Wet-sandblasting this truck frame. If you do not prep the frame fast enough after blasting you will get flash rust. I tried a few other products with no luck. I used this and I am more then happy with the end results. You will see in the pictures the frame looks gray after blasting it, and then I brushed the product on and the frame was not even 100% dry yet ( but I did prep before I applied this product ) and I was amazed how it went on. The big test was to see if the rust would bleed through the product and I can say it did not. This has been on the frame for about 5 weeks now and it looks perfect, I still have no put a top coat on it yet because I am not sure what color I am going to use yet. I have not tried spraying it yet, but I will be soon. I was not sure how well a water based product would hold up or even stop the rust from coming back-but I can tell you it works. And if you think it is expensive-trust me it is a bargain compared to the other products out there and sub par results. For what I have used it for- I can not recommend it enough. Read the directions and you will be good to go. I had originally bought the smaller container first just to try-and once I saw how well it worked I purchased the gallon. ***The first two pictures are after the frame was wet-sandblasted, the next to pictures are with the product on it.

Great rust preventer. Brush painted on steel porch posts with rustoleum satin black overcoats x2, light sanding between coats...Florida rain and lots of sun and not a smidge of rust about two years now.
