I would put this review between 4 and 5 stars (really because of not being able to return at the Niu location). I erred on 5 because I think the value was good.We were staying int he Monarch and used the rental on Niu street. Price was great. We rented a "premium" Smart Car, which I had never driven before, but was fine. Not a lot of room int he "trunk" but we actually managed to get a folding wheelchair in there (though it was definitely a tight fit). Car was a little older but in good shape. Clean. Had AC (part of the reason we went with premium). Good gas mileage for cruising around the island (but I was not able to find anything that estimated miles left based on the gas in the tank; that would have bene helpful). The car ran pretty good, though not perfectly, but we had no issues.Important to know (and we did know up front), if you are renting form the Niu location, you cannot return the car there and you do not get parking in the hotel. So you either have to pay for parking (I think that was around $50/night) or park on the street. We parked on the street and had to be wary of the different parking hours. On the weekend, it was easy to find parking during the day but a little bit of a challenge at night, though I never had to park more than a 10-minute walk away. Drop off is about a 20-minute walk/$12 Uber ride away. But, if those things are manageable for you, definitely a more affordable car rental option.I was a little skeptical because of some of the other reviews and a somewhat older fleet, but the car was in pretty good shape and worked well for us. I'd rent from them again.

Rented a mini convertible, process was smooth and car was great. Loved it so much we did it again a week later. Unfortunately, the mini we got the second time had some issues. Was drivable, but definitely needs some work. Overall, great experience and only reason for 4 stars was the condition of the second car.

My wife and I took a vacation to Oahu, and everyone told us that we wouldn't really need a rental car to enjoy Oahu, but we immediately found that we should most certainly rent a car. Luckily, in the lobby of where we were staying, we saw the 808 Smart Car Rentals banner advertising a $23 per day rental (it's not really $23 due to the fees, but it's still super cheap). By the time you take an Uber to a single place and back, you've already far surpassed the price of a Smart Car for a day from here, plus we have the convenience of the rental place being in the lobby of where we were staying, so it was a no brainer. First car we got was an older model; it was *extremely* rudimentary/basic, which might freak some people out, but it was completely okay with me. It's a budget rental place, you're not there to get a luxury car, you're just getting something to putz around in. However, that first car also did not have A/C, which is not too good of a thing in Hawaii, as sometimes it'll be raining and you can't roll the window down to keep cool (not to mention the windshield fogging up, which is much more important, especially at night). Again though, I was not too deterred by that, as I am mighty. We ended up exchanging the car though, as that specific car's engine *shut off twice* on the highway. Glory to God, it was entirely inconsequential. Again, I am a superb and experienced driver, and I also have a lot of experience with cars in general, so I just pulled over safely and started the car again, but that was obviously something that I wasn't comfortable repeating the next day. We exchanged the car the next day for a 2015, and it was significantly better (though still no A/C lol).The staff were all polite and helpful, and although I forgot to get their names to give them proper credit, know that they do their jobs very well and that they add to the overall positive experience. The young lady at the front desk gave me a small discount for the inconvenience of having no A/C, which was appreciated.If my wife and I find ourselves on Oahu again, we would most certainly rent from 808 Smart Car Rentals, given the fact that we had working transportation to wherever we wanted on the island for 4 days, for a grand total of $130.

Loved the guys here! Super friendly. Had the car for 3 days. Car is definitely cheap, and worn, but the price is cheap as well! Well worth the money in my opinion. I see people complaining about the miles on the car, but you get what you pay for lol If you want to pay premium then definitely go to the big rental car companies. If you want an island beater this is the place!
