Update 5/14: My first rental was the base, but went back to rent a vehicle for the day again and it was such a breeze. Everything was on file so I was in and out pretty quickly. The premium was only a couple dollars more than the base and it was a much nicer drive and experience. Also given the difficulty with parking around the island, it's always nice being able to squeeze into parking spaces no other vehicle would have been able to fit in. That's when you know you've made a good choice.Original (base smart car rental around May 8th) They are super easy to work with, and will have you in a car in no time. Also super affordable and a option you should consider. Only issue with the car was that the left blinker was hyper flashing and sure enough I noticed the left tail light was out. But we were far enough out I didn't want to cut our time by returning it. While yes the most basic smart car was a bit sluggish, it did the job we needed it to do. Smart Car rentals was absolutely FABULOUS! We used this company many times over the past two years while on Ohau. Every time the service, support and flexibility was sensational. I loved the low price we received by taking the three-day special. Let's just say at Smart Car, the price was right, the support was great and the service reps, fabulous (including Shania, Shinea, Marie, Juliette and even the owner Vince). All were sooo helpful. The flexibility in working with us to obtain cars on short notice or to keep them longer when needed made our trip phenomenal! Yesterday I wanted to rent a car to drive around Honolulu/Oahu, and all the national car rental agencies near Waikiki had sold out. I am so glad, because I rented a great little Smart Car from Marie at 808. I actually called the office from my hotel (Courtyard Marriott), confirmed with Maria they had cars in stock and walked over to their office, all in about 10 minutes.It was so affordable and she was so helpful. Check in and return were easy. The office had a helpful map of the island. It’s off the beaten path, but I totally recommend this place. Super great value, especially if you’re looking for an efficient car to have a fun drive around the island. Less

You cannot beat this price, service, and conscience for a rental car on Oahu. The cheaper smart cars can be a bit old and well used but they are all you need to get around the island efficiently. Less

We rented two different Smart cars from the Niu location. The process was smooth and the price for a 24 hour rental was around $50 with all the taxes. Our first rental was the base smart car - it was really old and black tape covered the engine lights. It got us around no problem, but we recommend upgrading to the higher level of Smart car. We received a newer car that just drove a lot smoother. Drop off was easy but make sure you don’t leave too much sand in the car - the staff made a point to tell us that, probably because they didn’t want to vacuum it 🤣 Less
