Very long time MGM customer, first time Face Book 'poster' (never had a Face Book 'account' until a couple of weeks ago). I have ~15 MGM barrels, mostly Contenders and G2's with a few more on the 'to-get' list. I guess it goes without saying that if I weren't very happy with their products, I wouldn't keep buying them! Since I spend so much time chasing deer with a muzzleloader, I wanted to make a few comments regarding my experience with my MGM 45 cal 22" G2 muzzleloader that I purchased right after MGM announced this barrel. I prefer Contenders (specifically G2's) to Encores, and my objective with this barrel was to match the performance of my 50 cal Encore. The barrel has easily surpassed that goal. I am shooting 45 cal bullets sabotless (sized down as MGM demoed in their 500 yard Encore muzzleloader video) with 100 grains by volume of BH-209. I pretty regularly shoot 1" 100 yard groups, and get "minute-of-deer" sized groups out to 250-300 yds. Velocity is about 100-150 fps faster than the same weight 45 cal bullet shooting saboted in the 50 cal Encore with the same charge of BH-209. While 300 yds may not be far in the long range muzzleloading world of today, it is further than I had ever shot a muzzleloader or a deer (with anything). And this set up is the lightest weight, most compact muzzleloading rifle I've ever handled.
