I thought it would be neat to take my mother to have British-style tea for her 83rd birthday, and I recalled hearing about McHugh Tea Room from a colleague who had ordered scones and clotted crème for an event some years ago. I decided to have tea at noon since “tea” often means supper in England and is plenty of food for an entire meal. McHugh did not disappoint!Since I also invited my father, we had tea for three, which came with three individual pots of our choice of tea, as well as three each of the chef-selected finger sandwiches, scones, and desserts. The scones with clotted cream, jam, and lemon curd were outstanding! We also enjoyed the three kinds of finger sandwiches, pimento cheese, chicken salad, and cucumber. We barely tucked into a chocolate cake square and a lemon square when we realized how full we were. So, we took the desserts home for later, which also included mini strawberry cupcakes.Aside from the tea and meal, I liked that the tea room is cozy and casual, not formal like a hotel dining room that serves tea. It was a welcoming, comfortable place to sit and enjoy time together.All in all, I’d say it was a big success! Delicious!

I stopped by McHugh's by myself after a full day of travel from NY to Houston for business, and it was exactly what I needed. After being in airports and cars all day, walking into this cute little tea room felt like such a nice reset. The decor is charming and the whole space has a calm, welcoming feel, perfect for unwinding solo.Nicole was my server and she was wonderful. She could tell I'd had a long travel day and took great care of me without being intrusive, checked in at just the right moments and gave helpful suggestions on the tea and food since it was my first time there. It's the kind of attentive service that makes eating alone feel completely comfortable.The food itself was fresh and well presented, a really nice way to decompress after a stressful day of travel. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Houston for work, and I'll be hoping Nicole is working. She turned a tiring travel day into a genuinely relaxing stop.

the presentation was great! i am a tea nerd so im very critical however. The sandwiches were a fantastic size, but the chicken salad was extremely plain, and the bits of chicken could’ve been chopped finer. The tea selection was very big, but they didn’t have cubed sugar or milk to go with (had to ask!) the scones were VERY good, but i wish they were a bit bigger! desert tray was yummy but the icing on the strawberries was very very sweet. Overall, 4/5, the service was very good! not as much a “proper” afternoon tea, and for the price point of $115 for two people i was very unimpressed. would likely go back just for a regular lunch.

Took my mother to McHugh’s Tea Room for Mother’s Day and had such a lovely experience. They were kind enough to accommodate us last minute, which we really appreciated. The tea, food, and service were all excellent. Everything felt warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully done. It made for a really special Mother’s Day lunch, and we’ll definitely be back.

We so enjoyed our lunch. The food was great, lots of choices and many are gluten free. It's a very cute place inside, so don't just look at the outside, which is kind of plain. Our server was excellent. I do recommend this wonderful little tea room.
