I had been going to Casses for monthly adjustments, when I mentioned to Dr. Chastity above my jaw locking and feeling like my bite alignment was changing. She recommended I make an appointment with Casses' in-house massage therapist, Brenda Mosser, who is certified in TMJ massages and physical therapy. Wow! I started going weekly and graduated to monthly. The initial consultation was so informative; Brenda explained in clear detail what she would be working on with me during our appointments and also what exercises I should be working on at home for continual relief. The massage itself covered my neck and shoulders (expected) but Brenda also extended to my back, collar bone, chin, temples, and scalp. I didn't realize how far extended the jaw-moving muscles go! Brenda answered every question I had with words and also actions ("feel this? that's the...). I love getting information like that because it helps me understand why my home exercises are important. Yay motivation!Added benefit? Maybe unrelated, I guess, but it just seems to happen every time I get a massage with Brenda: the skin of my face is clearer. Specifically, there were several occasions where I woke up the day after a massage and cystic acne spots on my face were nearly gone. It was wild. Brenda explained so much to me about how lymph node massage helps with muscle tension and fluid movement and how she spends so much time in a TMJ massage activating the nearby lymph nodes. Coincidence? I doubt it!This is not just a really good massage. The TMJ part of all this was intense. Gloved and cleaned, Brenda worked inside my mouth, massaging and releasing tension under my tongue, in my cheeks, and at the very back top of my jaw. (To be clear, it hurts. But so does my jaw locking, and my jaw never locks now, so I say it's worth the 5 seconds of intense pain.) I was telling my dentist about Brenda's practice, and he was so impressed. He had me give Brenda's business card to his scheduler for future referrals.Brenda is also really nice :) I like talking during massages so I don't fall asleep. Brenda is kind and caring. She has so many stories from her life that demonstrate her deep passion for healthy living and continued growth and education. She was interested in all of my stories too. I could see that Brenda was genuinely happy for me when I would tell her good news since the previous time we met.The massage room was clean and tranquil.
