I recently had cataract surgery performed on me by Dr. Bull at RAMC. I am very pleased with the result as I am not wearing glasses for the first time in 60 years, going back to when I was in fifth grade. In fall of 2024 I went for an eye exam and new glasses were prescribed. However I ended up getting quintuple heart bypass surgery on Dec. 2, and thus put off ordering new glasses until spring. My vision in 2024 was off enough it was getting difficult for me to read road and street signs until I was right on top of them. My night vision was reaching the point I avoided driving after dark whenever I could. I had been told of developing cataracts several years earlier. After getting my new glasses in May, I didn’t notice any improvement in my vision. Over the summer it seemed to get worse as when grocery shopping, I couldn’t read labels until I got up close to them. When I went to the Reedsburg-LaCrosse Centralfootball game, I could follow the action but the players were so blurry I couldn’t read their numbers. Because of that, for the first time in 45 years I didn’t attend the Reedsburg-Baraboo game in person. I could see games much better watching them online,So after another exam in September, I was referred to Dr. Bull, who recommended cataract surgery. He also informed me he could correct my lifelong astigmatism. I scheduled it for late fall. The day after the first surgery on the first eye, I went to the Reedsburg-Pewaukee football game and was able to see the the players clearly without glasses. My vision improved even more after the second eye surgery was done. I went fishing in the Dells and drive home in the dark and my night vision was amazingly better than it had been for years.I was in and out of RAMC in less than four hours for each eye surgery. I appreciated being able to get the surgeries done so close to my home. One issue: I keep instinctually reaching for the glasses I no longer need when I get up in the morning.
