The REMS bone scan that I had done this week was the most comprehensive and informative scan I've had since being diagnosed with osteopenia. All of the information that was provided to me after the scan results were in, was new information on this condition. Since being diagnosed about 10 years ago with osteopenia, I've been told to exercise, walk, do weight bearing exercises and take Calcium with Vitamin D. For years, I've been practicing yoga, working twice a week with a trainer with weights, walking with a weighted vest, etc. and my condition deteriorated from osteopenia to osteoporosis. This condition is reversible! I could not believe that the information to help me was NEVER explained explicitly to me by my physicians until the REMS test this week. Now I know how much protein I need on a daily basis, what supplements to take, my fragility score for a precise fracture risk and so much more. This is a test that I will have repeated and skip the DEXA scan which does not give a complete picture and is just another means of radiation.
