We had a glorious day out on the Spey with Colin and Rachel in late October. Colin was an excellent guide - he provided clear and informative instructions on how to use and steer the canoe. The Spey was high and fast flowing but truly stunning. Colin was a great guide - informing us about the local wildlife, vegetation and life in the Highlands. We loved it. The weather was perfect. The cabin at the end is cosy and inviting with a log burner to warm up and a tasty menu. We will definitely be back!

Looking for a resplendent multi day adventure in the Cairngorms? Look no further. Cairngorms Activities senior instructor Colin created a stupendous four days three nights guided canoe trip from Aviemore to Spey Bay for my group of six in October. We kept it simple for the most part, wild camping and campfire catering on the riverbank, but still managed to spoil ourselves with a couple of wholesome food stops at Aberlour and Fochabers. Colin dispersed the group, the camping kit and the provisions into three two-man canoes. Previous canoeing experience wasn’t essential, but those that had it helped keep the flotilla together, and afloat for most of the time. We traversed several level 1+ rapids, which got the adrenaline running and was a key factor for some unintended dips in the Spey. But, at no time did anyone feel uneasy or in real danger. Colin’s meticulous dry land and on the water training to ensure everyone could cope with the hazards we were likely to encounter was impeccable. Did the trip meet everyone’s expectations? Absolutely, and more!

It was a great experience, canoeing! The centre provides canoeing for all levels. We were beginners and my kids enjoyed learning and especially that moment of standing in the canoe. The teacher was very fun and explained everything in easy steps. We will definitely come back!

Canoe trip from Aviemore to Spey Bay over 4 days, 13th - 16th Oct 2026:Good trips sometimes just happen by themselves, great trips hardly ever. Colin was instrumental in making this a great trip. Prior to the trip he assessed our abilities, strengths, weaknesses, and our wants and expectations and planned it to give us the best chance of achieving what could realistically be achieved. He was relaxed, personable, attentive and inclusive at all times. On the water he was a consummate professional. Colin is obviously a very experienced and effective instructor, but more than just guide us down the Spey telling us what to do, he took great delight in coaching us as we went, developing our canoeing skills and passing on his knowledge and passion for canoeing, the river, and the surrounding environment. Whole-heartedly recommended.

100kms canoe trip on the river Spey over 14th to 17th Oct 26. We are an inexperienced group. From the outset it was clear that Cairngorm Activities were keen to ensure we would have a great trip - tuned to the capabilities and priorities of our group. Colin arranged a video call in advance to check out our skills levels and our expectations for the trip. He listened to this and aligned the trip to our needs. Colin is a very experienced instructor and brings a broad range of knowledge and skills to bear. This includes a great leadership style. Calm, informative and engaging for the most past but clear and authoritative when the need arose (normally when I capsized the boat). Colin quickly took charge and made sure the group was safe and and an effective rescue could be undertaken. Always, we were quickly back in the boats and on our way again quickly. At no point did we feel we were not in safe hands. Colin is very generous with his knowledge and is keen to pass on his skills to others. This included loads of cool stuff about the landscape, history, river life and nature in general. All of us had a great time and we were totally impressed by the way Colin ran the trip. I unreservedly recommend Cairngorm Activities.

We did a canoe trip from Boat of Garten to their base - it was a really enjoyable paddle and with a good flow on the river and a tail wind for much of the way, we zipped along. Colin and his team were super helpful in offering advice and making sure we had everything we needed for a safe and enjoyable outing. Highly recommend these guys for a fun trip on the River Spey.

What a lovely space! Disc golf was great, albeit a little confusing to navigate at times (think that was just a skill issue lol) but overall a mint place to go. It threw me off that there was no staff there on our arrival, so we just got our discs from the disc golf locker (very easy to find) and cracked on with our game.Staff were there on our return, made a great brew and had some snacks around which was lovely with the views. They had great knowledge of the area when asking for recommendations and were overall super lovely folks to interact with!Can very much recommend if you are looking for something to do in the area, and if you don't know the area, the staff have you covered! Thank you to the lovely lady we met there, you helped us a tonne with our adventures 😊

Had a great time with these guys!!! So accommodating, Colin stayed behind to allow us to book a last minute round of golf Friday evening. Even the next morning when we called up they managed to squeeze us in for an archery session with Pete who was a great instructor and lots of fun!

A Fantastic Afternoon family canoeing! Pete looked after a group of 7 adults and 2 dogs on a lovely afternoon on the water. We got dropped off up stream so no arduous paddling. Pete was a patient, knowledgeable & fantastic guide and made the whole experience thoroughly enjoyable. Highlight of our holiday in Scotland! Don't think about it, just book it!

We had an amazing couple of hours, Rachel was fantastic at explaining everything, very welcoming and great to let us try so many different games. Went on short notice booked five cycles for some Cairngorms adventure for the day. Website was easy and thoroughly enjoyable day. Staff very helpful with plenty of tips for the best routes and also stuff to do in and around the highlands. Lots to do and great location with nearby Grantown and the river Spey just beautiful.

Great location. With welcoming, helpful staff. Canoed in on the river Spey, in perpetration for the washing mashing run. Were able to Camp, use facilities and get a round of Frisbee in which was loads of fun.🤩
