C.V. Pools

I note the frustration expressed with or more appropriately pointed at the various warranty companies. I nearly fell into a similar trap and if I hadn't insisted on a second opinion, I would have been stuck with an out of pocket expense for $1400.00 (per the first contractor's diagnosis and estimate to American Home Shield (AHS). I contacted AHS because I had bubbles (lots of them) coming out of the pool/spa return lines - which to me, would indicate a leak in the plumbing (before the pump). The first contractor, in my opinion, either misrepresented the facts or confused the work tickets or misunderstood their technicians as they failed to look at the area I suggested and within moments . . . ."the technician diagnosed that the "pump motor was struggling to turn on, the technician did attempt to replace the capacitor and even after that there was still an issue." They further indicated: "For that reason, the technician ultimately recommended that we replace the complete pump unit, this is our diagnosis for your equipment, and so the replacement of the pump is the only repair we can offer. If you disagree with this diagnosis, you can reach out to your warranty to confirm other options, but this is the option, we can offer you." Because I was present at the pump/motor the entire time the first technician was there - I knew he hadn't attempted any sort of repair - including the one stated in their response." I contacted them via e-mail and indicated as much, enclosed pictures of the half-missing seal in the union/joint just ahead of the pump housing, as well as pictures of the capacitor cover that showed it didn't contain any evidence of a repair attempt. Note: The photographs showed a long-standing buildup of dust/dirt where the capacitor cover was located, that the same pictures (three of the capacitor cover and dust/dirt build up were undisturbed. The contractor's response was, in my opinion, curt, unprofessional, and lacked a reasonable thought process - in spite of my "extending an olive branch" of sorts - and essentially got blown off. I'm not a roll over and play dead kind of individual so I contacted AHS multiple times and they finally agreed to send a second repairman to review the original contractor's diagnosis. Mind you - it took over a week from the time the first contractor diagnosed the issue until AHS essentially blew me off. This appears to be the case in many of the reviews here . . . . But, after they contacted CV Pools - on Thursday, Feb 6th, I was contacted that same day by their dispatch and notified a technician would arrive within 24-hours (11 AM - 2 PM on Feb 7th). The technician, Marcos, was early, properly diagnosed the problem and if he didn't have to get permission from AHS - could have repaired the problem that day. As luck would have it - Marcos quickly responded to AHS with his diagnosis (leaking union/joint immediately before the pump due to a half-missing seal). He indicated the motor was not laboring and that the reason the pump couldn't create a vacuum and pull water from the pool - was the aforementioned/described leak in the plumbing. I received a notice from AHS that they had received his diagnosis - and later, received another notice from Marcos at CV Pools - that he would return on Monday (Feb 10th) to affect the repair. CV Pools/Marcos can be counted on to do the job right - within about an hour after his timely arrival today (Feb 10th) he had the damaged seal/joint/union and associated plumbing repaired and there were NO BUBBLES in the pool/spa return lines. So much for the first estimate/contractor, the need for a "generic" variable speed pump, and a $1400.00 out of pocket expense to remedy the bubbles I first called/complained about. CV Pools did an outstanding job - and I suspect that many of the gripes shown on this page are due to the lackluster performance of AHS, their "rules" and the way they seem, in my opinion, to use the "building code(s) excuse for them not honoring their end of the bargain, so to speak. I can say, from recent prior experience (with a hot water heater issue) that the same excuse (building codes/updates) was used to avoid fixing/relacing my hot water heater. Once again - two technicians, a first and second opinion/diagnosis, and multiple trips to the Palm Springs Building Code Enforcement Branch later . . . . did the job get done - and without the so-called codes/updates being made. I highly recommend CV Pools and Marcos - timely, knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. Just my humble opinion as a seventy-six year old veteran that graduated number one out of fifty-two students at the Naval Justice School in San Diego, CA. I don't pretend to know everything - but, I know when I'm being hoodwinked. The proof of CV Pools work - is that they were timely, factual, and eliminated the air bubbles in the pool/spa water return lines! Don't be misled by gripes that should be assigned to home warranty issues.
