Texas Fitt

I was a member at Texas FITT for about 10 years and have been through three different locations with them. For a long time, it was a gym I genuinely enjoyed and recommended to friends and family. When the latest move was announced, I tried to keep an open mind and give the new location a fair chance. I didn't want to base my opinion on frustrations I had with the previous location. Unfortunately, after working out there for a few weeks, I realized it just wasn't for me.The new facility is noticeably smaller and feels very crowded. Equipment is packed tightly together, trainers often take over whatever open space is available, and it can be difficult to move around comfortably. What used to be a place where I could clear my head and enjoy a workout now feels cramped and stressful.Over the years, I've also noticed less accountability on the gym floor. Equipment is frequently left loaded with plates, weights aren't always put away, and basic gym etiquette doesn't seem to be enforced. On my last visit, multiple machines were left loaded, the music was unnecessarily loud, and the overall environment felt chaotic rather than welcoming. At one point, I observed the owner walking prospective members through the facility while several pieces of equipment remained loaded with weights. Nobody addressed it, which to me summed up the lack of attention to the gym floor that has developed over time.I also feel the gym's focus has shifted. Years ago, it felt like a gym that happened to offer personal training. Today, it feels more like a personal training business that happens to have a gym attached to it. There's nothing wrong with personal training, and I've actually used those services myself at different times over the years. But as someone who primarily wanted a quality gym to work out in, I felt my experience continue to decline. What disappointed me most was how my membership ended. I paid for a full year in January and decided to cancel in May after giving the new location a chance. I was told they would allow me to cancel via email even though that wasn't their normal process, but I was also told there would be no refund for the remaining seven months of my prepaid membership. What makes that difficult to accept is that I wasn't a new member. I stayed through COVID without freezing or canceling my membership, paid the annual maintenance fees, used additional services when needed, and supported the gym through multiple moves over nearly a decade. While I understand businesses have policies, I think prospective members should be aware that prepaid memberships may not be refundable, even if the facility changes significantly during the term of that membership. That was ultimately an expensive lesson for me.Ten years is a long time to be a member anywhere. Unfortunately, between the changes to the facility, the overall gym environment, and how my cancellation was handled, it was time for me to move on.
