My kids went here for a year and it was the worst BJJ experience. I actually ended up buying out of a contract, it was so bad. One of my boys had an asthma attack and left the mat, Nat sat and watched. My other son went to check on him and then they got in trouble for leaving the mat without asking. Nat talks bad about military families saying they are expendable and thinks he is too good to roll with the students.

Both my girls have been training for 3 years. Professor Nat, Coach Isabella, and Coach Kristian are amazing. It's a studio all about the kids and developing them into well discipline, strong, kids. My girls have so much fun. Oceanside Jiu Jitsu is a family and community.

Chose oceanside amongst the gyms listed in Christchurch because of the other 5 star reviews, could not have been happier with that decision. The gym is wonderfully decorated with inviting colors and prestigious medals all around. The staff was quick to greet me at the door, give me a tour, and direct me on the mat. The class was large, focused, and well run by the instructors with plenty of opportunity for questions. The rolling after the instruction was friendly and high level. Everyone was mindful of the mat space and mindful when applying submissions to foster a safe environment. The facility includes a weight room, sauna, ice bath, and cardio bikes. If I lived in New Zealand I’d be training at Oceanside Jiu Jitsu, and if you have the opportunity you should absolutely go in and take a class.

There are many jiu-jitsu academies in the area, but Oceanside Jiu Jitsu stands out as the best choice, especially for children. Their children's program is the best I have ever seen, offering not only top-notch self-defense training but also a significant boost to kids' confidence. Professor Nat is exceptional, having spent years in Brazil mastering the art at its source. Coach Kirstin and the rest of the team are equally fantastic. Having moved away from SoCal, I have yet to find another academy that comes close to matching the quality of Oceanside Jiu Jitsu. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Professor Nat is an excellent coach and his banter cracks me up. A lot of people with soft skin sometimes get offended but the man has dedicated his life to BJJ and is tough as nails. He is also very concerned about making sure rolling is done safely, highly focused on good technique, builds solid comradery among his students, and it's just a great place to train overall.

I was able to drop in on a 6:30 PM Friday night gi class. It was focused on Judo for Jiu Jitsu. I reached out via Instagram and head back from Professor Nat quickly. I got to the academy and was greeted by Professor Nat and signed a waiver. There were a handful of students for this class and within the class time there were warm-ups, takedown technics, nagekomi, randori rounds, and live rolling rounds. Professor Nat is a great instructor; very detailed and made sure to correct any mistakes he noticed. The academy is full of tough and technical students! It was a great class and thank you for allowing me to purchase an academy shirt!

I was recommended to this gym from a friend and I was very impressed with the 1st class we were able to join as a test. My son has been at this gym for a couple months now. He is 5 and surprises me when he is able to walk me through the steps of various moves they are teaching him. He is actually learning self defense techniques and takes pride in knowing the oath and how to tie his own belt. I'm proud of him and the growth he's had since joining this gym.

This academy is top notch. From the moment I tried my first class I was hooked. Professor Nat and the coaches offer a Plethora of jiu jitsu knowledge. I was extremely nervous on my first day, because of my experience at another gym getting smashed by the upper belt levels, this is not the case here. It’s a very friendly and excepting environment for beginners to advanced students. The academy its self is very clean and well maintained. Awesome job guys! And thanks for the good vibes!

"Discipline at its Finest Levels" is what you'll find at Oceanside Jiu-Jistu. You will not find socializing or a casual approach to the instruction. The Staff here also watches their students closely to ensure that there isn't any misuse of power/abilities. In the event that a student demonstrates a lack of control, they are corrected immediately. It is exceptionally clear that Oceanside Jiu-Jitsu is a 100% Learning Environment from beginning to end. Professor Nathanael is precise in his instruction and thoroughly explains the Real Life application of each move. There is also extensive time spent on what NOT to do in terms of instinctual responses when having to defend oneself. The depth of each session with Professor Nathanael builds endless confidence in each student that is unique to his teaching style. Coach Kristien is also instrumental in communicating and encouraging students to move forward into the Competitive realm of Jiu-Jitsu. Her ability to communicate with students and empower them to grow in this sport is phenomenal. Coach Yasmin, is also a great role model and assists the Staff in a way that allows for all students to take her lead into this organization. Oceanside Jiu-Jitsu has gone to great lengths to build a solid program that is truly worth the investment. Without any hesitation, I recommend Oceanside Jiu-Jitsu.

Dropped in at Oside JJ when I was visiting SD. The professor's were extremely nice and accepting of someone dropping in. The facility was super clean and they let me borrow a GI. #1 - great gym to drop in at and #2 - if I lived in Oceanside I would definitely be a member of this gym!P.S. their white belt fundamentals test and the moves you have to learn are really clearly defined and helped me improve some of my own technique. This place is top notch. Oss! 🤙

It was an absolute pleasure to be able to drop in at this school to learn and roll, and I can’t say enough about how awesome the team-centered, open and welcoming environment of this studio is. Professor Nathan is detailed to his craft and the atmosphere he promotes. The instruction was well above par and focused on the technique of Jiu Jitsu in all aspects.
