My family and I have been following this restaurant through it's various iterations going back all the way to when it was Taco Riendo back on Lanark over 20 years ago. The current owner is the best version of this restaurant and she's done a great job of cultivating an atmosphere with great food and generally amazing servers. I almost always recommend Viva to friends and family coming to town for the overall experience. Saturday nights with live music and Sunday mornings after 10 with live mariachis help being the overall experience to a true San Antonio experience. Sure, you can hit up Mi Tierra or La Margarita. But you'll enjoy the combination of the food, service, atmosphere, and ease of access here more than the other places. At the very least, fit this into your plans for any meal of the day and you'll be happy. My go-to meals are the menudo combo on Sunday morning and the parillada at night. But, honestly, the menu is so good across the board that is hard to go wrong. The chilaquiles rojos plate is awesome.. the Chilaquiles rancheros tacos are delicious. The sopes are incredibly satisfying. And the pork chop taco is ridiculous!!!!If you have a family gathering or just want a good option for a regular go to, you ought to try Viva.
