From someone who couldn’t imagine taking the plunge into BJJ… Gracie Jiu Jitsu is definitely the way to go. Staff at Tameside Gracie have been very helpful and supportive and it makes a difference. My advice is try a free class and go from there.

Joining Gracie jiu jitsu has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. From day one it’s been incredibly warm and welcoming, no egos, just great people. It’s done wonders for my self-confidence, both on and off the mats, and every session feels like progress. Couldn’t recommend it enough

What an amazing place to come and learn. I Started off by taking my son and he challenged me to have a go, and well am I glad he did. Brilliant instructors fantastic facilities and fantastic people. Come on down and give it ago I was quite anxious at having a go but was really made to feel welcome by members and staff there.

Absolutely fantastic community & environment especially for women. My daughter joined & Absolutely loved it & when she found herself in a bad relationship the love & support from the whole community was Absolutely invaluable helping her cope. Shes so excited to go bk as a young mum .It's so heartwarming to know she has such a supportive community to go back to as well as keeping her fit & learn self defence skills. Can not thank the wonderful Alex & Dani & the whole community enough xx

Joining Gracie Jiu Jitsu is easily one of the best choices I have made! Alex, James and Dani are all fantastic in what they do and they each go above and beyond to ensure that we all feel comfortable and supported, whether that be on or off the mat. The community that has been created is so welcoming and positive, and stepping on the mat is a privilege to share with the amazing people around me! The Jiu Jitsu curriculum is delivered in a great way that makes it accessible for everybody, whether that be Gracie Combatives or Master Cycle, and is taught brilliantly by James and Alex! I joined to learn Jiu Jitsu but I have gained so much more than that! You won’t regret joining this incredible community!

This place is fantastic, the instructors know their shit and are great at teaching it.The atmosphere is fun & friendly, and in the mastercycle side of things, competitive (which I love).

The instructors are highly skilled, patient, and dedicated to helping every student improve—whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced grappler.The classes are well-structured, with a great balance of technique, drilling, and live rolling. The atmosphere is fantastic, with a real sense of community among the students. Everyone is there to learn, grow, and push each other to be better.If you're looking for a high-quality BJJ academy in the area, I can't recommend Gracie Tameside enough. Whether you're training for competition, self-defense, or just fitness, this is the place to be!

Welcoming and supportive atmosphere with well-structured teaching.I've trained here (on and off) for nearly 3 years despite initially being dubious about trying BJJ as I'm not a rough person and certainly not a fighter. I had visions of big egos smashing white belts and coming home with injuries but I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be quite the opposite.The beginners 'Combatives' course is a relatively gentle and highly structured introduction to the basics and fundamentals, based on cooperation and helping each other progress. The teaching is very high quality, Alex & James are very friendly and enthusiastic about sharing their skills and knowledge. There are videos at Grace University online of each class to revise and improve knowledge between sessions. I also like that the Gracie program incorporates a context of self-defence and not just scoring points in competitions.Due to life pressures I sometimes train sporadically but I'm always made to feel welcome when I turn up. It's a little pricey but I consider that as an investment in myself - improved fitness, confidence, calmness, mental wellbeing and meeting like-minded friendly people. Highly recommended.

I joined GJJ Tameside around three months ago now and I have felt a massive improvement, not just in practice but also my confidence inside and outside of the academy. Alex and James are both incredible instructors and they have been a massive reason to why I’ve fallen in love with Gracie jiujitsu. I can’t recommend GJJ Tameside enough, I have met some incredible people here and I’m enjoying the process. It is such a beautiful place for your mind and a great way to get in physical exercise too! If you’re interested in jiujitsu, this self defence programme is the best place to start!

Really happy I found this place. James and Alex are so good at training the kids. The group is lovely bunch of kids that all get on really well and help each other out in progression.The incentives are really good and fair. Its great for building their confidence and Corey is always pushing himself, especially now he's received his first belt, he only wants to get better :)Its a fun atmosphere and the kids are always well motivated to begin.

The team at Gracie Tameside are all super supportive. I highly recommend this to anyone who is thinking about joining. Not only do you learn valuable skills but the community and togetherness make it a gym like no other. I’ve never met a bunch of nicer people who all want to support one another to achieve their best. Each week, I leave the class with a great sense of achievement and really looking forward to the next session. With the online calendar and flexibility throughout the month, it’s easy to get your moneys worth! You will not be disappointed.

I've been attending Gracie Jiu Jitsu Tameside since July 2022, in fact my first ever lesson was on the 37 degree heatwave day we had that year.Everyone I've met at Gracie Tameside has been fantastic, from the instructors James and Alex, to all of the guys and girls who are currently taking the Gracie Combatives (beginners) classes with me.Since joining Gracie Tameside I've lost a tonne of weight, stopped smoking, feel more confident in my body image and also more confident that I would be prepared for a violent altercation (mainly by knowing that there's no pride lost in your first move being to just remove yourself from a situation). It's also been extremely beneficial for my 6 year old son, who has also started taking classes here too.I couldn't recommend Gracie Tameside highly enough. It's been utterly transformative for me, and I hope it will be for others for years to come.

Great and welcoming environment for all ages.Alex and James are both excellent teachers of the techniques Gracie Jiu Jitsu has to offer.The combatives program I am currently part of has been instrumental in my self defence confidence.As the classes are technique based it ensures that people with no experience in self defence aren’t put off by being thrown in the deep end.

Great Gym for learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Teachers are great, knowledgeable and really friendly which shows with the students there. Everyone is really friendly and helpful, looking out for each other.

My son did the summer boot camp here. We didn't know what to expect and my son was very nervous.The team and children. Are so very welcoming. Within no time at all my son had settled in and was loving it. We are going to join full time.I'd recommend Gracie Jiu Jitsu Tameside to anyone wanting a brilliant way to get your children off the Xbox and into a friendly supportive martial arts.Awesome.
