A very happy anniversary to us! We made a last minute (day of) decision to do something special for our wedding anniversary, and my husband booked a reservation online. He said it was impressively easy and received an almost immediate confirmation. On arrival we were greeted very warmly by the hostess who seated us in a comfy little private corner. Our server, Alex, from the moment we sat, was attentive, friendly, informative and made some excellent suggestions (so grateful for her urging us to have the 'surf and turf' special of the day!), and she remained top notch all the way through our experience. What a credit to the restaurant she is.We are early birds, so we were able to take advantage of the happy hour prices, and yay for us... we also dined on a day where it was 2 for 1 bao, so instead of 2 bao, we ended up with 4. I am not a pork eater (normally), so we mixed the mushroom and pork bao, but let me tell you... the char siu pork was DELICIOUS! The bao buns were so light and fluffy they almost melted in our mouths. Our drinks, Cayman Parrot (of course) and the Spiked Vietnamese Iced Coffee were so light and refreshing and perfect accompaniments for heavier meals. If you have spent the day at the beach (not me),I definitely recommend the Cayman Parrot as your first dinner refresher. My iced coffee was a whole delightful performance. The surf and turf special was a Caribbean lobster with steak in a Jamaican curry inspired sauce, and oh. my. gosh!! I don't have words to describe how surprising and mouth wateringly comforting it was. So unusual, velvety and luscious, and just look at how beautifully it was presented (I realize I'm gushing here, but it was so good I purposely didn't finish all of my half so I could enjoy it again the next day lol). We also had Szechuan beef, which was the tastiest I've had in Cayman.Alex recommended the Apple Pie Spring Rolls... Burger King Apple Pie has NOTHING on these! Not too heavy on the dreaded cinnamon, these were light and warming and the perfect non-stodgy end to a beautiful meal. This was our first visit to Uncle Liu's, and I'm so glad we live here, so we can come again.
