Good food, great company and a table full of bold Thai-inspired flavours made for a memorable evening at Bangkok Mama by Thai Square. My friends and I visited for dinner, looking forward to catching up over delicious food and meaningful conversations. Located downstairs at Thai Square’s Minories branch in London, Bangkok Mama offers a creative take on Thai cuisine, combining familiar Thai street food flavours with pizza and other comforting favourites. It was a lovely setting for a relaxed dinner with friends in central London. The restaurant had a welcoming, informal atmosphere that suited our gathering perfectly. Being downstairs gave the space a slightly tucked-away feel, away from the busy streets above. The setting encouraged us to settle in, take our time and enjoy each other's company. Bangkok Mama by Thai Square strikes a good balance between casual dining and a place that feels right for a special evening with friends. If you're looking for a relaxed Thai-inspired restaurant near Minories in London, this is a strong option. We started with the Wing-Wing Situation, which comes with five chicken wings per portion. You can choose flame-grilled wings with Jaew Mayo or batter-fried wings with Mama Mayo. I chose the flame-grilled wings, and they were a great start to the meal. The smoky flavour from the grill worked beautifully with the rich, tangy Jaew Mayo. The sauce was particularly enjoyable, adding a creamy sharpness that complemented the chicken without overpowering it. I would happily order these again.Choosing a main course was surprisingly difficult, as several options caught my attention. Eventually, I settled on the Spicy Bangkok Piccante with beef, a Thai-inspired pizza influenced by Pad Ka Praw, the popular Thai street food dish. The toppings included bird’s-eye chillies, onions, peppers, crispy basil, and savoury soya sauce. This pizza had plenty of character. The chillies delivered a noticeable fiery kick, while the beef, vegetables, and aromatic basil layered savoury flavour. I particularly enjoyed how the Thai ingredients gave the pizza its distinctive taste. It was genuinely spicy, but I kept returning for another slice. You can also add a fried egg.I also sampled some of my friends' pizzas, which were equally enjoyable and showed the variety on the menu. For dessert, I ordered the Thai Affogato, creamy vanilla ice cream with a shot of fragrant Thai tea. It was a refreshing contrast to the heat of my main course. The ice cream's smooth sweetness paired nicely with the tea's distinctive aroma, providing a comforting finish to the meal.Service was another highlight. The team were friendly, attentive and welcoming throughout our visit. We felt well looked after without the experience feeling rushed, which made it easy to enjoy our food and conversations. For anyone planning a Thai-inspired pizza dinner in central London, Bangkok Mama offers an appealing combination of interesting flavours, comfortable surroundings and thoughtful hospitality.I would particularly recommend Bangkok Mama for casual dinners with friends, relaxed date nights or anyone curious about Thai flavours presented differently. The evening experience worked especially well for our group.A special thank you to the Bangkok Mama Pizza and Thai Square Group team for inviting us and hosting such an enjoyable evening. The hospitality was genuinely appreciated. I would happily return, especially for those smoky wings, delicious Jaew Mayo and spicy Bangkok Piccante pizza. A worthwhile addition to your London food list if you enjoy creative Thai-inspired dishes.
