We found our new Coimbra home...or so we thought. Conversations with the owner were getting "interesting" and then Storm Kristin hit, essentially ending communications for good. SIDE NOTE: as someone also named Kristin, I should've taken this as a sign that we had not found our new home. Weather aside, we needed to find an apartment, and we needed to find it fast. My husband placed a note in the Coimbra Expats & Immigrants FB page, asking if anyone know of a real estate company who could assist. Fox Real Estate, specifically Craig, was recommended and then Craig reached out to us directly...it was the beginning of a partnership that was meant to be. From our 1st facetime meeting, everyone was on the same page. Craig understood what we were looking for given our lifestyle (I'm working remotely), our interests (music, sports, art, etc.), basically what we wanted our new life in Coimbra to be. Really excellent service! Made navigating the complex Portuguese market very easy, and were very responsive to my family's needs! We're unusual in the sense of composition, lots of animals, and in having some very specific disability-related requirements; none of these caused an ounce of hesitation. Very welcoming and affirming, including when troubleshooting some complexities along the way. We felt well-supported through the entire proces; they listened very carefully and then showed us a wide variety of properties in order to narrow our constraints to very specific parameters. When it was time, they were able to find us a housing despite very little lead time-- less than a month-- without cutting corners! Fox Realty also had excellent suggestions for local businesses and services, and were advise us on the details of daily life. We used Aurelien Hyunen and Filipa Alves with Fox Real Estate on recommendation from a Facebook group related to moving to Portugal. We had a relatively short period of time to secure a flat in Lisbon remotely, and started with a company we didn't feel was responsive to our needs. When we switched to Fox, Aurelien was immediately responsive, putting together some preliminary examples of places that fit our criteria. He grasped that we felt an amount of urgency about securing a place, and worked with us daily to review options. Additionally, I am a very "hands on" type of client, and was giving him many suggestions (I love to browse real estate), which he handled with grace. He directed us away from areas that might not have easy transport, that were very hilly, or might have other issues. He allowed us to decide on the apartments we viewed, never giving a hard sell. We were able to find a place we liked that was a fairly low rate for Lisbon. Filipa was also very helpful. She made sure the utilities and our phones were set up for when we got there. She also received our order for a bed and a few household goods. She met us when we arrived, and was there when the gas company came to check the gas. Would definitely use again, if we need an agent in the future.

My husband and I are both retired ex-military from the United States and having been stationed in Europe years ago, we decided to come back and make Portugal home. It is a daunting task to relocate especially when you’re in your 60’s and 70’s. Not knowing anyone, we did some research online and visited some social media chat rooms about Portugal and real estate.I noticed Aurelian trying to help answer questions and he had such an honest face, lol.
