I've been doing jujutsu with them for over a year now, but due to my work schedule, I have to take time off here and there. I love going to the 11 o’clock class. They’re older, like myself, 30- to 40-year-olds. The gym is really accommodating: you can ask as many questions as you want, get personalized instruction, and there’s always time at the end of class to work on any techniques. Best of all, the other Members will be happy to stay after class to help you work on your technique or to get more rounds in.

This is a great gym from beginners to the experienced. The professors are very patient and eager to help their students. The gym itself is very clean and plenty of seating. I definitely recommend signing up your kid(s) or yourself at GB Whittier.

Started my training at Gracie Barra Whittier in 2023 and believe it or not, it was honestly one of the best decisions of my life. went in with no experience in any kind of martial art and coach Alex and Professor Phil made me feel very welcomed, I met a lot of good people and made a lot of friends along the way. before signing up and trying the trial class, my intention was to try out other gyms before sticking to one but the experience training with Phil and Alex made it an easy decision to stay and till this day it is still my home gym. highly recommend signing up at Gracie Barra Whittier, or even just to drop by and visit.

This is a great facility and Alex does a great job at keeping the kids focus and engaged. He is patient with mine and my husband’s son and is very keen on allowing our child to go at his own pace, which we appreciate so much. I've been wanting to enroll my son into BJJ for the last couple years but didn't know where to look. Someone I know recommended Gracie Barra gym and I was fortunate to find one so close by to home. My son has been here for almost a month now and he is loving it! The owner and coaches have been great with providing structure and have been patient while my son grasps what he is being shown. He has a lot to learn but I believe this place has all the tools and support he needs to get where he needs to be.

My son loves taking the classes here! We did a free trial and right away he engaged with the coaches so we signed him up. They take the time to make personal connection with each child, while still keeping the momentum of the group going. Very impressive for a group of 3-4 year olds! I can tell this is going to be great to help my son with his discipline and focus, while growing him athletically as well.

We made the decision to bring our family to this BJJ Academy in early 2025, after visiting other gyms in the area. Gracie Barra Whittier’s Tiny Champions program stood out from rest, and I can attribute that to their Program Director, Coach Alex…the Ms. Rachel of BJJ. Like Ms. Rachel, Coach Alex breaks down the program into fun digestible building blocks that a preschooler/child can engage in, learn from, commit to memory, and build a strong BJJ foundation to grow from. Highly recommend Gracie Barra Whittier. Our three year old started with zero experience and not knowing what jujitsu was and coach Alex worked closely with her to make sure she felt comfortable with all the new things she was learning. Wonderful experience here for my son (8). My son was nervous about coming to a new school but quickly found out how much he enjoyed it here. Great culture -kids class was competitive and supportive at the same time. Truly a team here, loved going to a kids competition and seeing the kids play together while they wait for their match and going to cheer for their teammates!

It's been about 3-4 years since my young kids started here at GB Whittier. The Professors here are awesome. They pay attention to the kids, and focus on techniques, safety, and fun. Coming here with my kids have helped them get use to learning structure, learn social skills, build friendships, and all while learning jiu-jitsu. There is no pressure and no coaching while off the mat for visitors. Would definitely recommend checking this place out because the people (Professors, students, parents) here are always nice and have the right kind of attitude and energy.
