Just over 12 months ago, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life. Today, I’m sitting here nearly 50kg lighter, but honestly, the number on the scales is only a small part of this story.I don’t share this for praise. I share it because this journey has changed so much more than my body, and because maybe someone reading this is sitting where I once was, wondering if change is possible. ❤️The biggest changes can’t be measured on a set of scales. My mental health feels lighter. The constant food noise has quietened. I have more clarity, more confidence and, most importantly, I’m learning to be kinder to myself. I’m learning who I am without using food as a coping mechanism, and that has been both confronting and incredibly freeing. My relationship with food has completely changed. Food no longer controls me. I’m learning to see it as fuel and nourishment rather than something I have to use to cope with emotions. There’s still so much I’m learning, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come.My relationship with exercise has changed too. Movement no longer feels like punishment. I actually enjoy it. I’ve recently completed a season of soccer, competing in two women’s team. I’m running, getting stronger and discovering what my body is capable of. Things that once felt impossible now feel achievable. And perhaps one of my favourite changes has been the impact on my family. I have more energy. I’m more present. I can participate instead of sitting things out. I can keep up, play, laugh and make memories without constantly thinking about how uncomfortable I feel in my own body. Then there are all the little non-scale victories that mean just as much as the 50kg:✨ Clothes fitting differently✨ Having more energy✨ Feeling comfortable moving my body✨ Running and exercising because I want to✨ Feeling more confident✨ Saying yes to things I would have avoided before✨ Looking in the mirror and actually recognising myself✨ Being more present with my family✨ Feeling proud of myself✨ Realising just how much I am capable ofThis journey absolutely hasn’t been easy. There have been hard days, emotional days, frustrating days and moments where I’ve questioned myself. It has required discipline, vulnerability, patience and a lot of unlearning. So I wanted to take a moment to say thank you.To the entire TWLSC team who have supported me from the very beginning — thank you. ❤️Thank you for your knowledge, your care, your patience, your encouragement and for making me feel supported through every stage of this journey. I have never felt like I was doing this alone.Twelve months later, I can honestly say this surgery has given me the opportunity to change my life. But it wasn’t just the surgery — it was the incredible team behind it, the ongoing support, and the work I’ve put in every single day since.I’m still a work in progress, but for the first time in a very long time, I’m genuinely excited to see where this journey takes me.Thank you for helping me find me again. 🥹❤️Here’s to the next chapter. 🥂
