My wife and I have just had to move her sister out of The Village at Eastgate at the end of November. Her short stay was due to her declining conditions. We had nothing but the greatest experience with the staff and many of the residents during the few months she was there. The entire Staff from the front door through the administrators and Services Personal treated us like family and worked with us through any questions and requests we had. Thank You All ! I began my search for an Independent / Assisted living option for my mother about this time last year and came across many options that had price range, facility condition and location factors to consider. My mother is a bouncy on the go person that likes her freedom; even if that is only a 2 mile radius from Eastgate area. When I came across Village of Eastgate and met with the office staff for our first tour of the facility it felt warm and welcoming with happy people moving about. I began to feel comfortable for my mother, knowing she would be happy here. Over time she mingled with the residents and became involved with the activities and options they offered to help keep her busy. She looked forward to the group dinners and flexibility of the menu options. A year later my mother still enjoys her independence but knows if something happens in the middle of the night that she can get some quick assistance as needed. So for a cost effective and welcoming home environment; a place that you can feel comfortable knowing that your elderly family members are in good hands, I would definitely recommend the Village of Eastgate to provide that piece of mind and quality living for loved ones. My father was living here when he had a fire in his apt unit. He has Multiple Sclerosis, Bipolar and additional health issues. He has a history of falling, choking and passing out. His mobility is very minimal, and he uses a mobilized wheelchair to get around and he cannot drive. He needs to have supervision because of the issues listed. He had been hospitalized many times while living at Eastgate Village along with countless calls to the EMT to help with a lift assist. After the fire occurred, Jon Trowbridge (manager) did absolutely nothing to re-house my father. He strung us along for weeks saying he was working on getting a room ready, then to be told "he just needs to find another place". My father ended up living in a hotel-unsupervised for he was not monitored, checked up on (unless it was me) and did not have access to meals. I had to take him food daily and make sure he had everything he needed including medications. Because of his history of choking on food, it was especially worrisome for him to be left alone day in and day out with no emergency system…such as life alert. He was completely isolated as he cannot drive. This was mentally and physically strenuous on him, to have lost just about everything in the fire and be uprooted from the place you live. I feel that Eastgate Village did a grave injustice to their resident. Someone who has a plethora of health issues, who I paid for him to be in an assisted living type of facility, to have been completely cast out and forgotten, especially when it looks like the cause of the fire was from a faulty piece of equipment in their unit that they failed to maintain. I hope in writing this complaint, it will not fall on deaf ears and that Eastgate Village will have to raise their poor standards of care. I do not think anyone who is elderly and disabled should have gone through this. If I were not an advocate for my father, I believe he would have become homeless and or severely hurt because of the lack of care. WARNING TO ALL...Keep looking for other housing for your loved ones. After an early stage dementia diagnosis, we moved our mother from Florida back home to Ohio and began the search for a senior living facility. After touring many facilities, we decided to move her to Eastgate Village. It was a smaller facility with nice apartments and a "homey feel." They had so much to offer the residents with entertainment, crafting, exercise programs, good food, bake sales, transportation and a wonderful staff. Everyone was so friendly and good to mom. She loved them all: the cleaning staff, the cafeteria staff, the office staff, the janitorial staff, the entertainment/activities team and especially the owners (the Trowbridge family - Mona, John and Jenni). They went beyond the call of duty during the eight years mom lived there to help with our needs but more importantly to always show her love. They made mom and all of us feel like family. As the dementia worsened, our family decided it was time to move mom to a dementia facility. We were there one month and knew we made a terrible mistake. I called Eastgate Village and found out mom's apartment was vacant. We felt it was an omen that we needed to take her back "home" and bring in caregivers to care for her. It was a wonderful feeling to go back, and we were able to keep mom there until God called her home. Even then, the Trowbridge family jumped in to help us through a very difficult time in our lives. I have work at The Village of Eastgate for 16 yrs. I enjoy the resident and staff its not just a job it feels just like home to me. I like that we have all kind of activity and thing to do with the resident and I have learned so much from the residents and staff. when my time come to needing a place like this my plans are to move in to here. Our mom has lived there almost 6 years now. She just turned 91. We are so happy that Eastgate Village has the care & kindness to help our mom & all of the other residents there. Mom has not been the easiest but they have always addressed each one of our concerns with earnest consideration & kindness. The employees are always friendly to us. Covid-19 has been a total pain but they are going above & beyond to keep everyone safe & sound. Not an easy task at all. Thank you to John & the entire staff! And, Merry Christmas! Less
