I adopted a 2 year old Rottweiler mix that was completely untrained (When I mean untrained… he literally didn’t understand “sit” AND when he finally learned his name, he refused to acknowledge it) and had heard about Canine Perspective from a few colleagues. I signed up for 6 one-on-one sessions after a month of unsuccessful DIY training. For context: my dog tore an ACL, pulled me to the ground, and almost dislocated my shoulder within the first month, all on a harness with double leash contact which is allegedly supposed to reduce pulling. While not everyone may not favor e-collar training—I have seen first-hand how beneficial this training was for my dog. Jesse and the Canine Perspective team not only taught my dog to be obedient on and off leash, but taught me as a first time dog owner to have the tools to further his training outside Canine Perspective. My dog is happier, more mentally stimulated and his anxiety has been reduced all from the freedom of being able to walk off-leash and safely and selectively play with other dogs at parks. Jesse and his team offer a wealth of knowledge on any dog-related topic, and the entire staff is extremely in tune with each dogs’ needs. Training with Jesse not only molded my dog’s behavior, but molded mine as a dog owner- ensuring that even in a threatening or unpredictable situation, my dog and I can successfully navigate anything together.Think of training with Canine Perspective like sending your dog to college- except you’re there right alongside them. You’ll learn to sense dog behaviors and signals, how to better feed your dog on a species-appropriate diet, and how to train your dog to live a full and happy life.

This review is long overdue! Jesse and his team at Canine Perspective saved my dog Benji’s life! I adopted Benji out of a home where he was biting daily. Removing him from the environment was a good start and he trusted me but didn’t trust others, and even had a level 4 bite a few months into my ownership, around May of this year. I was distraught—wondering what could possibly save Benji by correcting his biting if my love and general obedience couldn’t? That is when I found Jesse. His reviews were great online but I was still nervous, wondering if he could really help my specific case, which seemed to be such random bites from past triggers I didn’t even know.Jesse and his team SAVED Benji! His one on one training sessions helped me understand what Benji needed—leadership, not exclusively companionship—and turned him into a calmer, more confident pup. As for the biting, we have had a couple of instances since but none even making skin contact and all able to correct to teach Benji right from wrong. Now in December, Benji can join me out to eat at restaurants, walk confidently through the airport, and play/walk freely off leash on the beach.My biggest concern at the end of training was quality of life. Would Benji ever be able to go to a park? Have my sister pet him? And for me, would I be able to have friends over? Have a place to leave Benji while I traveled? Jesse and Canine Perspective solved all of this for me and more! Benji now attends their boarding and daycare and he loves it while I get to rest easy knowing he is getting structured playtime, keeping up on his training, and getting the specialized attention he needs. I am forever thankful for Jesse, Elizabeth, and the rest of the Canine Perspective team for all that they did for my family!

Great experience here! My dog had begun to be randomly reactive towards certain dogs and his loose leash walking also was not where I wanted it to be after so much training at other facilities.He attended the board and train and came back a different dog! He is much more relaxed and his walking is night and day. He is much less reactive and relaxed on walks which makes our walks overall so much more pleasant.I also appreciate the structure of their daycare. When I dropped him off, I could hear so much barking from a completely different facility down the street. Meanwhile, it was very quiet and calm inside canine perspectives which i think is great so he doesn’t pick up bad behaviors from daycare.Overall, great training, people, and facility!

If you have a reactive dog in Chicago, look no further. Do not waste your time or money going anywhere else! I can’t thank Jesse enough for his help training my dog Bentley. I hit a complete brick wall with my reactive Border Collie, and after trying so many other options across Chicago, nothing made a real difference—until I found Canine Perspective. My dog would get extremely reactive whenever he would see a bulldog that lived in our building and ones on the street, it got to a point where I wasn’t able to control him and it would give me anxiety when I walked him but then thank God I found Canine Perspective. We did the 6 session training with Jesse and didn’t even end up needing the last session because we saw so much progress. We rescued our dog six years ago, and while she has always been the sweetest companion at home, her reactivity made everyday life incredibly hard. While Jesse helped us make progress on our pup’s behavioral issues and overprotectiveness, what I think we appreciate most is how much better we can communicate with our gal. We understand *how* she thinks. Jesse is incredibly knowledgeable and takes the time to break down how each word and action is interpreted by our dog. Now, our communication with our pup is clearer, she’s happier and less frustrated, we can read situations and anticipate actions. She can have more freedom and independence. Our bond and our trust is stronger in each other.Struggles with resource guarding and even darting after squirrels is less and less as we continue to use the tools Jesse has shared. And we have the skills to apply to many situations which is empowering.

We are so happy to have found the crew at Canine Perspective. They are all warm, attentive, and most importantly, great at what they do! Jesse was great with answering tons of specific questions in sessions and over email. He had solutions to all the behavioral roadblocks wed hit after other training programs.It’s been so rewarding and such a relief. So many folks think that your dog will never be an off-leash dog, or that you just have to live with reactivity, avoiding certain situations. HIGHLY recommend Jesse and canine perspective! We first used Jesse and his team for our puppy Finn when he was just ~2 months old for a puppy board and train. Jesse and his team made potty training/crate training a new puppy so much easier and more realistic. We again used Jesse for a “puppy head start” program to continue to build on Finn’s foundational training. After his board and train + puppy head start, Finn was a well trained, well behaved and overall a dream dog for first time dog owners. More recently we came back to canine perspective for the third time to work on “big boy” training and began e-collar training. After a 6 week program, Finn, who is only 2 years old, is off leash trained and has impressive obedience skills. We are incredibly grateful for Jesse’s wisdom. The e-collar has been one of the most invaluable tools we have used in Finn’s training. If you want a well behaved, reliable dog we recommend Jessie as your trainer!

If you’re on the fence about training here - I couldn’t recommend this team enough. When I moved from Dallas to Chicago, something snapped in my dog and his occasional barking at dogs and people turned into full blown reactivity. I was walking this dog at 6am and 10pm in Chicago every day praying that we didn’t see another dog. His reactivity had hit an all time high seemingly overnight and I didn’t recognize him. I was introduced to Jesse at a Solid K9 seminar that was hosted at Jesse’s facility and put him in the Canine Perspectives board and train shortly after. This is him over the past two weeks at Lincoln Park, Gold Coast, and Old Town (all very very dog heavy neighborhoods) in very busy times. We’ve had four separate occasions where little dogs have barked and lunged at him and he was fine. I have my confidence with him back so the world became a much less stressful place. We have a lot work left to do, but I couldn’t be happier because I feel like I have my dog back.

Sending our dogs to Jesse and his team at Canine Perspectives was the best decision we’ve made for them. We found Canine Perspectives while searching for structured training for our 1-year-old Rottweiler, who had started resource guarding and becoming aggressive towards our older golden retriever. She was also a nightmare to walk and constantly pulled on the leash.Jesse worked with her through a 4-week board and train program, and she came back with newfound confidence, skills, and self-control. Our Golden joined her for the last 2 weeks for his own board and train. While he had been trained by another service in the past, Jesse’s approach and results exceeded all of our expectations.The videos Jesse sent explaining the commands have been pivotal in helping us reinforce their training. We also received follow-up sessions as part of the program, which have been incredibly helpful for addressing any post-training questions or challenges.Before training, I never would have attempted to walk both dogs together, but now we take them out as a pair with complete control. My experience with CaninePerspectives was off the charts. First, the customer service was excellent. Very attentive and kind. Because I was doing a daycare and train package they were able to help with picking up my dog. Communication was excellent and everything done was very professional. The team loves their dogs. They teach obedience in a safe way and always with kindness. The videos that Jesse provides are very detailed with all of the little details you need. For new trainees, it’s super important to watch all of the videos and practice! Follow his instructions, it works! My dog’s obedience level has increased rapidly. We recently enrolled our dog in the two week Board & Train program with Canine Perspective and couldn’t be happier with the experience and results. My boy Enzo was difficult to train using my old ways with previous dogs. He immediately responded to Jesse's methods, the light turned on for him and two years later I have a dog who listens to me because Jesse helped us communicate. My 2.5 year old Labrador Murphy has always been sweet and loves people and other dogs, however he struggled with constant overstimulation. He wasn’t able to “turn off” and relax and often didn’t know his own strength when we would go for walks in the neighborhood. I took him to two positive reinforcement courses for puppy obedience and basic obedience which were minimally effective. I love my dog, but the frustration I felt about his behavior made me feel like a bad pet parent.Summer of 2023, I discovered Canine Perspectives, and after the first of several training sessions with Jesse, there was an immediate difference in Murphy’s behavior! My relationship with my dog has changed for the better, and I can’t thank Jesse enough for that.Once Murphy completed his training, we did the 3-day evaluation for daycare/boarding, and he’s been attending daycare two days per week and boarding whenever I need to go out of town. CP is a quiet, structured daycare/boarding environment, and Murphy always comes home happy and exhausted. I trust Jesse and the staff at Canine Perspectives and highly recommend their training and daycare/boarding services. They even do an annual Halloween photoshoot! I’ve included Murphy’s photo from 2023 in this review.I’ve also utilized Elizabeth’s nutrition counseling services which have made a huge difference in Murphy’s health. As a typical Labrador, he was having frequent GI issues. Elizabeth educated me on pet nutrition and gave me some recommendations for food swaps, and the problem has completely resolved.My only regret is that I didn’t find Canine Perspectives sooner!

Not only has Jesse given our power-breed pup confidence to be around strangers and other dogs but he has given us, as dog parents, a better understanding of how she operates building our confidence, as well. I’ve been working with Jesse and Canine Perspectives for over a year now. I adopted Winston, a now 5 year old pittie mix, 2.5 years ago. He had a rough go like many shelter dogs and was reactive to dogs and over medicated for it.Positive only reinforcement didn’t work for Winston. I had to hide behind cars with him if he even saw a dog a block away and even then he would lose control. Initially I worked with another faculty that used e-collar but was not seeing enough progress.I found Jesse and the rest is history. Jesse is compassionate, patient, knowledgeable and a fantastic trainer. He was thorough upon meeting me and Winston for the first time and gave his honest opinion. He also took the time to educate me on the why and the psychology of dog.Fast forward to today, I’m now equipped to introduce Winston to dogs he will see regularly - after Paws said he would never be a social dog, Winston walks past other dogs without issue and he is fully weened off the three drugs Paws had him on for reactivity and anxiety. He’s a different dog - in every good way possible.Jesse and Canine Perspectives are the only place I trust with Winston. Finding a quiet kennel with structure is a rare gem. I know Winston is always safe and getting exactly what he needs while I’m not with him. We trained our dog Lucy at canine perspectives with incredible results. Lucy is a very reactive 65 lb dog. She loves people, but when she’s around dogs there’s really nothing we could do. Until we got Lucy trained at canine perspective for reactivity and off leash. We love to travel and hike with Lucy everywhere, and the training she got has afforded her so much freedom. Lucy wasn’t always reactive, she used to go to normal day care and has been plenty socialized. But right around when she matured and turned 3 she wanted nothing to do with dogs. In fact we couldn’t take her to normal day cares anymore.Say what you want about their methods, but it gave our dog her freedom back and she actually has a day care to go to once in a while. And she gets super excited to go. Really the only reason we even take her is for social interaction. It’s amazing to see her actually play with dogs and be reactive towards them.By the way, we tried the collar on our arm first and it’s about as strong as those TENS machines. Not a big deal, just a good tool to communicate with your dog. Quite frankly, Lucy is less anxious in public when she has her collar on cause it provides her with reassurance that we are on the same page.It’s an absolute joy to be able to hike with Lucy off leash without fear of her running after another dog. I’d absolutely recommend them if you want to be able to be off leash or have a reactive dog.

Canine Perspective is the best and safest place for training, daycare and boarding. The structure they instill in a day of daycare is so impressive and healthy for all dogs that attend. They come home tired, but not stressed or anxious. I can't recommend this place and the staff enough!
