Xavier and crew completed phase 1 in June and did an amazing job. Phase 2 was completed last week by one of their Winston-Salem crews, consisting of Scott and Charles. Scott and Charles were exceptional, especially given all of the very large, buried tree roots they had to remove before planting in the portion of the property they worked on. They were professional, very courteous, and extremely generous with their knowledge. Scott spent considerable time educating us and answering our many questions, as well as giving us simple and detailed instructions on the care of what they had planted for us. Highly recommend this particular crew and can’t wait to work with them again. Less

We relocated to the area this past summer. Our new home’s landscaping left much to be desired with massive overgrown bushes that only the wasps enjoyed. We chose to contact New Garden due to their history as a company- family founded with massive retention rates with employees. Jeanine from the New Garden team was our first contact, and she responded almost immediately to our email and we had a consultation scheduled within a few days. I can be difficult to nail down on these types of projects because I don’t know the language or the possibilities…I usually end up making overly demonstrative gestures while saying useless things like “you know, sort of these thingies” to describe what I like/what I want. Somehow though, Jeanine figured me out and would say, “yes, movement, yes drawing the eye upward, yes balance on both sides.” When she left my husband said “ah, she speaks Kate.” She created an amazing plan, which had everything I could never describe but always wanted. The end result is breath-taking, and even in early stages there hasn’t been a person who came by who didn’t comment on the beauty of it all. Jose lead the installation of Jeanine’s design with Luis’ help- they were absolutely amazing as well- punctual, reliable, respectful, and beyond talented. Jose hand set every stone we have which was incredible. But I’m still not done. We have the maintenance team as well, lead by Isidro, and they are just as excellent as everyone else. His crew is timely, does excellent work on a large property, clearly are knowledgeable, and take pride in their work. New Garden also contracts with other professionals who have been fabulous to us as well- especially Marlon for demo work. We couldn’t be happier, and if you stuck around to read this entire love letter, you should call them and hire them for all of your landscaping services. They are outstanding! Less

I had a "get well" plan for 3 large garden bed areas and some trees. We discussed permanent mulch and he advised they don't do rubber mulch and recommended pine straw. I said this was fine. The total job cost about $5k which I found to be very reasonable. I'm unsure where there miscommunication occurred, but it happened at some point because no landscaping paper was installed in the beds. Tripp told me I would have to do some "weeding" and I acknowledged that was understood because one of the garden beds had landscaping paper installed by me and my boyfriend and we have what I consider to be a "normal" amount of weeding in that bed. However, the picture I've enclosed is what I've had to pull over the last 3 days, and I do not honestly consider this to be "weeding". This is grass. I was very surprised and honestly disappointed to find they didn't put down landscaping paper when cleaning out the beds. I'm not sure if it common practice not to do this, but I feel given I informed them of the minimal amount of time I wanted to put in maintaining it and the discussion of "permanent mulching" these would be a tip off to install this. Especially given they saw the other bed had this paper installed already. I called when the grass started popping up, and they responded quickly to spray but it honestly didn't put a dent in it. Now we are going to have to spend the time installing the paper ourselves to keep from dealing with this level of maintenance every year. Less

My husband worked as a supervisor in an irrigation and landscaping company when we first got together years ago, but since his back surgery, he just can't get down to do it for us anymore, so now we are paying others to do it and here are my comments based on the knowledge I have of irrigation companies through him.When I call in, I've noticed that the scheduler doesn't seem to know one single thing about irrigation. Then, when the irrigation techs show up, they don't know what the problem is because their scheduler knows absolutely nothing. One employee showed up here asking for details on what my problem was with my irrigation when I specifically told her all the information already. He told me the notes just said "customer has a problem." Laughable! Why even waste my breath telling her all that? Like what was she doing when I said all that? It just seems like she hasn't even been trained. She doesn't have any idea how long the job will take and often takes longer than estimated because she just doesn't even know. She scheduled me like a half hour job when it took two hours. I was on my lunch break! So silly because she's the first person you speak to, and she knows nothing. Not a reflection on her really, but how the company trains its employees because she seems very nice. But why doesn't she know anything about irrigation when she's the irrigation scheduler? Seems she should have at least basic knowledge about how long a job will take in order to schedule right or at least able to type out actual notes I've given her.And now I've noticed that the employees show up in LIS Irrigation shirts! So disappointing. Switch to Ideal if you can! LIS is an awful company. Their jobs go wrong all the time. My husband went outside after one of their jobs once and actually laughed. Like, it's just a joke. Very shoddy work. Came apart soon after. My husband with his bad back got down and had to fix it himself. No way were we calling them out to fix it gain. What a business model for them though! I actually switched away from them to New Garden! Now I have to switch again!My husband knows someone who used to work for LIS, so I know exactly why they suck. They schedule way too many jobs in a day so often times you won't get work done as estimated and they terribly overcharge and the employees are late all the time because of this mismanagement. A few times within the past few months, New Garden/LIS sent their irrigation workers to our property looking half dead at 7-8pm in Winston Salem, and the guys told me they live in Greensboro! That means they are getting home at like 9pm or later! Very alarming to know they treat their employees like this. I just can't stand the idea that I have a man starving for dinner, on his hands and knees digging through the dirt in my front yard. It doesn't sit well with me. Then I've had an employee sent to me in the pouring rain! How in the world are they going to find a leak when the ground is wet everywhere? What kind of sense does that make? Does the company even know how irrigation works??? I want a company that I know the employees are trained properly to do their job are treated well and not overworked and get to go home to their families. I mean, they start at 7am for goodness sake. What are they doing at my house at 8:00pm?? All in all, take this how you will. Maybe people just don't care how the people who are working for them are treated, but I do. They won't keep any good employees long! I wouldn't be surprised if I learned they are losing money and customers because of this mismanagement. Less
