Plaza Azteca was an absolute home run for lunch, and I left already thinking about when I could come back. I am from Kansas City, Missouri, and was in Fargo visiting family, so I did not know exactly what to expect when we stopped in. Let me just say, Plaza Azteca made a strong first impression. In fact, my biggest complaint is that they do not have a location in Kansas City yet. Plaza Azteca, if you are listening, KC needs you.I visited during lunch with a party of 8, which can sometimes be a challenge for a restaurant, especially when everyone is ordering different food, drinks, appetizers, and needing refills at different times. Plaza Azteca handled it like a well-oiled machine. From the moment we sat down, the atmosphere was welcoming, fun, and full of energy without feeling rushed or chaotic. It had that perfect lunch vibe where you can relax, enjoy the meal, enjoy your company, and still feel like the staff is moving with purpose. We started with the Tableside Guacamole, and that alone was worth the trip. There is just something better about guacamole made fresh right in front of you. It felt like lunch and a show, except the show ended with chips and fresh guac, which is the best kind of entertainment. The guacamole was bright, creamy, fresh, and full of flavor. It had the right balance of avocado, lime, seasoning, and texture. It disappeared from the table fast, which is always the best review an appetizer can get. With a party of 8, you know something is good when everyone keeps reaching back in like they are afraid someone else is going to get the last scoop. For my meal, I had the Chicken Empanadas, and they were fantastic. They came out hot, flavorful, and satisfying without being too heavy for lunch. The outside had a great texture, and the chicken filling was delicious. Every bite had that comfort food feel while still tasting fresh and well prepared. It was the kind of dish that makes you slow down for a second and appreciate that you made the right choice. I would absolutely order them again. Now let’s talk about the margaritas. The margaritas were top notch. Not “pretty good for lunch” good. Not “I guess I’ll have another” good. These were the kind of margaritas that make the whole table start asking, “What did you order?” They were refreshing, smooth, and mixed perfectly. Plaza Azteca clearly knows what they are doing behind the bar, and the margaritas added the perfect touch to an already great meal. The real standout of the visit, though, was the service. Our waiter, Saul, was incredible. With a table of 8, there are a lot of moving pieces, but Saul was on top of his game from start to finish. Drinks stayed filled, orders came out smoothly, questions were answered quickly, and he made the whole experience feel effortless. He was friendly, attentive, and professional without hovering. Honestly, Saul was a master of his craft. You can tell when someone takes pride in what they do, and he absolutely did. He managed our table with confidence, timing, and personality.Overall, Plaza Azteca delivered everything you want in a great lunch spot: fresh food, excellent drinks, a fun atmosphere, and service that makes the entire experience better. Between the Tableside Guacamole, the Chicken Empanadas, the top-notch margaritas, and Saul providing five-star service, this lunch was a total win. As someone visiting from Kansas City, I can confidently say this place would do great back home. Plaza Azteca needs to open a Kansas City location because KC would absolutely show up for food, drinks, and service like this.
