Buildcon Concrete

⚠️ STAY AWAY!!! ⚠️This was, without question, the worst experience I have ever had with a contractor. We were promised a 5-week turnaround, yet the project took 11 weeks to complete, and the final result was far below the standard we had paid for. Some of the issues we encountered included:We paid for aluminium windows, but plastic ECONO windows were installed instead. Bertus maintained they were aluminium, however subsequent contractors confirmed they are plastic. The cheapest possible doors and poor-quality locks were installed. We paid for epoxy flooring, but the rough concrete was simply painted. The paint began bubbling and lifting shortly afterwards.Second-hand toilet seats were installed.Doors were cut unevenly and fitted with large gaps. The roof was never sealed despite being told that it had been.We were invoiced for 4 windows but only 3 were installed, and charged for 5 doors although only 4 were fitted. The overall workmanship was poor, with numerous unfinished and substandard aspects throughout the project. The delays were equally frustrating. On many days only one or two workers arrived, often without the correct tools or sufficient materials to complete the work. Progress was extremely slow. Bertus was rarely on site other than to drop off or collect workers and materials.Although the work was incomplete and defective, we were pressured to settle the outstanding balance before we had a reasonable opportunity to inspect the completed work. We even made a partial payment after being told the funds were urgently needed to pay the workers. We later learned from several workers that they had allegedly not been paid and had apparently been told that we had not paid Bertus.Throughout the project, additional costs continued to arise. We agreed to pay an extra R4,000 after Bertus advised that he had underestimated the amount of soil required for the foundation. Later, he attempted to charge a further R6,500, stating that it had not been included in his original quotation. After final payment was made, repeated requests for the defects to be rectified were met with excuses and promises that were never fulfilled. Despite numerous opportunities to return and remedy the defects, no meaningful attempt was made to do so.Ultimately, we had to appoint independent contractors to complete and rectify the work at an additional cost of approximately R32,000. When we requested reimbursement, we were blocked. We have therefore elected to pursue the matter through the appropriate legal channels. Our experience was characterised by prolonged delays, repeated broken promises, poor workmanship, disputed materials, unexpected additional charges, and a lack of accountability once payment had been received. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, I would recommend carefully considering all available options before appointing this contractor. This review reflects our personal experience, which is supported by photographs, invoices, quotations, correspondence, and the costs we incurred in having the defects rectified.***AFTER THE REVIEW -> Following our review, we received a WhatsApp message threatening legal action unless the review was removed. We responded by offering an opportunity to meet, discuss the concerns, and allow both parties to present the facts and any supporting evidence. Bertus advised that he was unavailable until the 20th but maintained that unless the review was removed within seven days, legal proceedings would be instituted against us for alleged loss of income. To date, despite being aware of the defects, Buildcon has not returned to our property to inspect or rectify the work. NO CONTEXT NEEDED -> Poor work and work ethic.ORIGINAL RESPONSE FROM THE OWNER HAS NOW BEEN CHANGED....09/07/2026 - RESPONSE FROM OWNER ... (See image below).NOT WORTH THE DRAMA GUYS
