One of the best decisions that I made before leaving Inpatient Physical Rehab (IPR) was contacting Dr. Courtney Perkins at Neuro Rehab Collab.Courtney is nothing less than amazing. She has an exuberance and positive manner that seems to rub off onto everyone. I found this incredibly helpful on the days when I was not feeling so enthusiastic about PT or great about my recovery.Courtney’s encouragement and resourcefulness is not exclusive to the PT sessions. Courtney has been very helpful when it comes to making additional contacts in the spinal and neuro trauma community, such as Driver’s Side Rehab, the Wheel Love community, reaching out to other specialists and doctors on my behalf, and much more.Dr. Perkins helped me go from a diagnosis that saw me leave In Patient Rehab in a wheel chair after 42 days, and within a few months she had me walking in my living room. To me, and my family, this was nothing short of miraculous.Dr. Perkins, helped me establish a routine and practice that enabled me to reach the highest point of my recovery. It has been several months since I have seen Dr. Perkins, but I still do a series of exercises and stretches that she taught me and helped me to establish a habit of doing.Today, I have far exceeded my goals. It has been 16 months since my spinal cord injury. I initially thought I would have to use a wheelchair to some degree for the rest of my life. Now, I am walking without a crutch or cane daily, and I continue to recover.Today, I sincerely believe I will continue to recover, in part because of the belief Courtney helped instill in me.I will forever be indebted to Dr. Perkins and Neuro Rehab Colab for all the help and support they have provided.
