So, so good. As a birthworker, Birth Vibes is undoubtedly a resource I’ll be recommending to my clients — I even tabbed my own copy so pregnant clients can reference my favorite parts! Jen does a beautiful job of explaining labor and delivery lingo & care perspectives in an accessible way. Birth Vibes is perfect for both first-time parents and those on their second or third rodeo, looking to make sense of their prior births or feel more prepared for their next one.As a mother who has experienced birth trauma, this book was a really healing and validating read. If I would’ve read this book while 18-years-old and pregnant with my first baby, I would have perceived my traumatic birth in an entirely different, more positive light. Needless to say, experiencing a shoulder dystocia that wasn’t explained or debriefed with me rocked my world. It is so reassuring to know that with reading even just a little of this book, millions of people will know that it’s actually okay to ask questions about what happened to them. Jen doesn’t shy away from the fact that birth trauma often originates from the way we’re treated and spoken to during the experience. She provides tangible ways for patients to be an active participant in their care, and I couldn’t love it more! Truly a five-star book and fabulous resource for those who are expecting, working with pregnant folks, or looking to better understand their own hospital birth experience. 💕
