Apollo Roofing Company - Novato

WARNING - RECENT OPINION THAT NEW ROOF MUST BE ENTIRELY REPLACED. My elderly parents hired Apollo to replace a roof in Santa Cruz and were promised highest quality. I showed up when it was complete and a few things didn't look right. The venting was all at the top of the roof. Chaim Bilva was present and said a few things about intake and exhaust that didn't make sense. I learned from the building inspector they had skipped inspections. For the first inspection at tear out, the inspector allowed the company to sign a document stating they were representing the customer who hired them that they had done everything right. For the second inspection, the inspector said they covered everything even after warnings so he had them remove part of the roofing for a sample area inspection. I asked the inspector for the document and for a marking on an aerial of the roof showing where he examined the nailing patterns. I never received these despite repeat requests. The inspector did agree to reverse the final. He told me no one English speaking was ever present for the inspections, only Spanish speakers. Since the company is Israeli it seems they had no oversight. It seemed Apollo may have subbed the roof out and took no part in its construction. There is an alcove on the house where they failed to replace the flat portion of roof and it leaked in the first rains. Instead of offering to fix the problems with the roof, they had an attorney threaten my parents and place a lien on the property with threats of foreclosure. They refused arbitration that is written in the contract they presented to my parents. The reason was that my parents had not put a signature on that particular page of the lengthy contract. Recently, Apollo offered to charge nothing for the roof if no one would write reviews. After that I had help looking at the roof by a professional who said the materials have been ruined by the many errors. I had seen strange nailing patterns in the attic but I could not tell if they were new nails or left over. Also they had sold my parents all new plywood but there are the planks from a wood roof in the attic so the last asphalt shingle roof would have been recent enough that the plywood should have been fine. That would be one possible reason to skip the tear out inspection. Apollo operates out of Walnut Creek and have an empty locked office in Santa Cruz and one in Novato as well as some apartment and house addresses around the bay area. Check it out for yourself. Since insurance companies are pressuring roof replacements and many reputable local companies have long waits, Apollo seems to be picking up some extra business as was the case with my folks. We are waiting for the CSLB to send investigators for site inspection. There is a tarp over the alcove.
