Let me tell you about our experience with Sam Merget of Park Place painting and coatings. Paint was peeling, wood rot beginning to form, and it was definitely time to paint our house. There was a lot of painting needed… all the siding, trim, soffit and facia, balcony deck (paint and stain), lower foundation brick, 4 exterior doors, metal railings, as well as shutters, door, and trim on the garage. What was most important to me was the prep work to be completed prior to painting. I interviewed and got estimates from probably close to 10 painting contractors. I asked them questions not only to learn, but to see how various contractors would respond differently to the same questions to evaluate their expertise, knowledge, and insight into their trade. I was very curious regarding the prep work. Would they scrape, pressure wash, even sand the exterior siding before painting? To what extent? Would they only spot prime certain areas, or prime the entire house? What types of primer and paint products did they use? Do they spray, roll, or brush? Do they use different paint on different surfaces? Paint gutters and downspouts? How long will it last and look good? What guarantee do they offer?….I asked a lot of questions and was fascinated by the variety of responses. And then of course there’s the price. My wife and I wrestle with this between my need to pinch pennies and her insistence we will regret hiring the “cheapest guy/gal”. Overall, like most consumers I’d imagine, we want the best combination of quality for the price we can achieve, or in other words, we want the best possible VALUE. Well, I am extremely happy to tell you, we definitely found it!Ultimately, we selected Sam Merget, owner of Park Place paint and coatings as our painting contractor, and it was the best contractor decision we’ve ever made! He truly fulfilled his promises and exceeded our expectations in every way. First of all, Sam was maybe the only contractors who sent his quote promptly after our initial meeting, as he stated he would. As we deliberated and had additional questions, his communication was always attentive, and that continued after we elected to hire him and throughout the project. Once the project began, Sam and his crew were always on time, and extremely respectful. His attention to detail regarding the prep work, was extremely impressive. From the pressure washing, to the scraping, sanding for uniformity, and priming the entire house, I can’t imagine another painter doing a better job. When I interviewed all those painting contractors, I’d ask what paint they’d use? Most said they’d use Sherwin Williams Duration, and a couple said they’d use Sherwin Williams Super Paint, a slightly less quality line. Sam quoted not only Sherwin Williams Emerald, but Emerald Rain Refresh! The highest end exterior paint Sherwin Williams offered, featuring a rain-x like water repellent integrated into the paint itself, and still came in affordable. I had concerns regarding extreme heat (some days hitting 90’s), and how that affected the paint drying and bonding, and could potentially affect longevity. Sam worked thoughtfully, working on sides without sun per time of day, and arrived early to bond the paint before the heat of the day rose. I was impressed by Sam’s diligence laboring himself, but also his ability to manage his crew and always have a plan in mind. Once finished, they even cleaned up great too! I could go on and on about the exceptional quality of Sam’s work, and he did all of this coming in as the 2nd most affordable of all the quotes!!! Now THAT’S the value I was looking for!!! The final result looks as nice as we ever could’ve hoped for, and it’s because we picked the RIGHT CONTRACTOR THIS TIME!!! With supreme confidence, I can tell you, HIRE SAM MERGET OF PARK PLACE PAINTING AND COATINGS FOR ALL YOUR PAINTING NEEDS!!!!
