Baby Otter Swim School

Coach Jamie was very good with my 20-month-old. She was patient, encouraging, and very punctual, which is so important for me on my mom/work schedule. She was also very culturally literate and respectful of diverse familial situations, as we speak only Spanish with our child. While Coach Jamie conducted the class in English, she did use some Spanish in an effort to comfort and better communicate with my baby, which worked! Results were quick. We had been going elsewhere at a local well-known swim school, but this was much more productive and would have saved us a ton of money if we had started with this. I do think our lengthy experience at the other swim school (with float swim float method) helped her to catch on much quicker than if we hadn't have had that previously, but either way, it is so nice Baby Otter teaches the parents how to keep practicing the techniques with them. The consistency of one full week in our own pool was super practical. If you have access to a private pool, this should be your first choice.Keep in mind, your baby might show that they are dreading the experience when the coach arrives each day. That is because they are nervous and expected to work. Mine cried the whole time every single day. Even so, every time Coach Jamie left, all my baby wanted to prattle on about was "kick, kick, kick". She was truly excited about it and it proved a fun challenge for her. When she was in the tub, she was teaching her rubber bath animal friends to "kick, kick, kick" and smiling and laughing. When she woke up from her nap, I asked her, "What did you dream about?" She said "kick, kick, kick". Now, all she wants to do is swim in the danged pool! I can't complain about free entertainment that wears her out. Better naps result but don't promise them more swimming when they wake... One day I took her out of the pool and she cried and cried, so I told her, don't worry, we can swim again after your rest a little. She then took a nap that was only 30 min instead of her typical 3 hour. Later I asked her, "hey, why didn't you take a longer nap today?" She looks at me and goes, "kick, kick, kick"! She was hanging on my promise....
