Wir konnten hier sehr kurzfristig für den nächsten Tag eine Tour auf den Acatenango buchen und es hat sich herausgestellt, dass wir dann auch nur zu zweit alleine mit unserem Guide die Tour bestreiten werden. Das kann man positiv oder negativ sehen.Der Guide war ein junger Local der leider genauso wenig Englisch sprechen konnte, wie wir Spanisch. Außerdem war er höchst motiviert und hat uns in schnellem Tempo den Berg hochgetrieben. Bei etwa der Hälfte konnte ich dieses Tempo nicht mehr mithalten worauf hin mir der Guide anbot meinen Rucksack für 300q zu tragen, was ich allerdings ablehnte. Stattdessen bin ich einfach in meinem Tempo sehr viel langsamer weiter gelaufen und wir haben bereits unterwegs Mittag gegessen (Hähnchen mit Gemüse und Reis) bis wir schließlich nach etwa 5h am Basecamp auf ca 3700 Metern angekommen sind.Am Abend hat unser Guide noch für uns asiatische gebratene Nudeln mit Gemüse gekocht und es gab heiße Schokolade, was sehr gut war.Am nächsten Tag sind wir um 4 Uhr früh los um die letzten 200 Höhenmeter auf den Gipfel des Acatenango zu steigen. Der Ausblick hier ist leider erst nach Sonnenaufgang so richtig gut geworden und wir haben keine direkte Eruption des Fuego gesehen aber es hat sich trotzdem gelohnt, so früh los zu gehen. Danach gab es zurück im Basecamp noch Frühstück (Instantnudeln und Tee/Kaffee) und um ca 7:45 Uhr haben wir unseren Abstieg gestartet. Dieser ging dann wesentlich schneller und wir haben das Tempo den Guides zu seiner Überraschung diesmal sogar problemlos mithalten können. Nach unter 2 Stunden waren wir wieder unten, haben unseren Reiserucksack abgeholt und wurden zurück nach Antigua gefahren.Insgesamt kann ich diese Agentur hier empfehlen, vor allem wenn man spanisch spricht, sehr sportlich ist und den Berg mit wenig Unterbrechungen besteigen will. Trotzdem würde ich dem Guide wünschen, dass er in Zukunft ein wenig mehr auf seine Teilnehmer eingeht und eventuell ein bisschen in seine Englisch Kenntnisse investiert, dann wäre die Erfahrung für uns vielleicht noch besser gewesen. Al llegar al lugar donde te entregan el equipo que te ofrecen (casaca de abrigo, guantes, gorras, etc) todo de muy mala calidad. Nos indicaron que el guía era capacitado y con experiencia, un poco más y nosotros llevamos al guía hacia el lugar donde teníamos que pernoctar. Nos ofrecieron una carpa para dos, cuando ayude a armar la carpa era una que se usa para la playa y que no reunía ni las mínimas condiciones, armamos otra carpa que le faltaban piezas y el protector para la lluvia, tuvimos que improvisar con la otra carpa que se tenía para poder cubrir, no teníamos mantras para poner debajo y el sleeping bag era del grosor de una sábana, malísimo, tuvimos que abrigarnos con toda la ropa que felizmente llevamos. Ya caída la noche, llegó otro grupo al mismo campamento con un guía totalmente escandaloso que no nos dejó descansar. We took the Acatenango overnight tour with A Viajar. As this tour is new we were only two people which is much better than some tourists factory agency with group as big as 20 persons. The guide was very nice and knowledgeable about volcano as he come from Mayan acatenango community (as all other guide working on the Volcano) he shared many information about surroundings and his culture. The camp was very basic with thin mattress and a tent, pretty much as all other agencies's, the main difference is that this camp is located on a very nice spot allowing view to Fuego and sunset, next to some "high end" agencies, which is not the case for other "low-cost" actors. Food was good, chicken, noodles, rice... To sum up, look like most of other agencies but with much smaller group and a better emplacement. Great tour, great guide, beautiful landscapes, a lot of eruptions. I would recommend A Viajar for Acatenango tour. (pro tips ask for the price in Quetzal and not dollar to avoid surprise on "conversion rate") Less

The other passengers did not appreciate our "late" arrival. We arrived at Pacaya and after MUCH upselling to turn it into a horseback tour, we were provided with a guide, who was adequate. We marched up the mountain (well to the plateau that is the end of the allotted climb), toasted marshmallows and were rushed back down - all before sunset which confused us as it was meant to be a sunset tour. As we reached the parking lot at the end, our guide shepherded us into the bathroom. When we emerged, we were told the sun was just about done setting behind us. Though we ran to get a picture, we had pretty much missed it. Disappointing, as perhaps it could have saved the trip. Less

The standard tour which is similar across all the agencies in Antigua OR a slightly more expensive tour which let's you sleep in wooden shelters at a point slight higher up the volcano. We chose to pay the extra for the slightly more expensive tour and I think it was worth every penny. Firstly the local guides who looked after us were amazing. The transfer was excellent and the local people who guided up the mountain were the most kind, patient, and knowledgeable. We were also treated to a campfire, hot chocolate, and marshmallows, while we waited for fuego to erupt. Secondly the view from the camp was outstanding, probably the best view of fuego we could have asked for. Good experience with Alex! He arranged our transportation from Antigua to Rio Dulce. We wanted to take the bus to Rio in the afternoon, and no other tourist office was able to provide us with that service. It wasn’t cheap, but it was very convenient! Good experience with Alex! He arranged our transportation from Antigua to Rio Dulce. We wanted to take the bus to Rio in the afternoon, and no other tourist office was able to provide us with that service. It wasn’t cheap, but it was very convenient! I came into the office and told him that I wanted to go to Volcan Pacaya to hike, Lake Atitlan to village hop and hike, El Paredon to learn how to surf, Semuc Champey to swim, and Flores to visit the Mayan temples with so little time, but did not know where to start. Alex wrote me an itinerary within seconds! He’s also super patient because I kept changing my mind and wanting to add more activities. I literally sat in the office for more than hour trying to add more to my itinerary. Alex was able to work around my schedule and adding excursions for me that I wanted to add last minute. He was also always available to contact him when you need something. I messaged him at least everyday for some questions, and he replied quickly, and ensured I made it to my destinations without any problems. As a solo female traveller, I really appreciated to have someone like Alex be there for me to ensure I am doing well and having a great time. He felt more like a family member than just a travel agent. Overall, the itinerary Alex wrote me was perfect! We used A Viajar to book a sunrise Acatenango tour, and also for a shuttle from Antigua to the airport. We found them to be honest and reliable, and communication via WhatsApp was excellent. We would not hesitate to use them again for a future trip to Guatemala. One note, we were told we would have a bilingual guide. We did not. We both speak a fair amount of Spanish, so for us, this was ok and not a major problem. If you really want/need bilingual, verify. A few words of caution and advice for Acatenango: -Make sure you are up there in the dark, otherwise you won’t see the eruptions. -It is difficult!…. and that’s coming from 2 experienced Colorado hikers. -It’s pretty steep. I don’t usually hike with poles, but we had the option to rent. My recommendation is to bring or rent 2 poles. I found them to be a godsend -Be prepared, it gets cold. I had just enough clothes. But, a dry base layer would have been nice to have to change into. Hat/gloves/and layers! -if you have the time, I bet the overnight is fantastic. The cabins at basecamp were comfortable with mattresses, sleeping bags, blankets and pillows. And the view of Fuego is outstanding! -we did the sunrise hike, which means we were picked up from our hotel at 11pm and we started hiking just after midnight. We had the added bonus of clear night with an almost full moon. It was spectacular, really. -Hiking down in the morning, we passed MANY large groups that were heading up. Made us realize that the night hike was very unique, the private tour was the way to go, and left us wondering how many of those people would actually make it to the top?! Less

I feel like the guy just wanted to sell me the trip and did not prepare me for it even though I asked him questions. We did the Pacaya Volcano tour with this company and while the excursion is a great unique experience and definitely worth doing we wouldn't recommend using this company. The driver was probably one of the worst we have had in our 5 month Latin America travels which meant we arrived almost an hour later than we should have and all with stiff necks from all the rapid unnecessary breaking. Our guide was a local and he was sweet and knowledgable but made us rush the entire thing (probably because we were late and he didnt want us to have to hike all the way down in the dark). We only had a few minutes at the top to take pictures and were rushed down to so the marshmallow roasting for 5 minutes and then hurried to hike back down. Investigamos un poco sobre los diferentes tours al Volcán Pacaya desde Antigua y estamos felices de haber encontrado A Viajar Guatemala. Ofrecieron el recorrido privado más asequible. No queríamos viajar en uno de los tours regulares que cuestan menos, pero todos salen a las 6:00 a.m. o a las 2:00 p.m. para hacer dos carreras el mismo día. Preferimos disfrutar del desayuno de nuestro hotel y optamos por una salida a las 08:30 a.m. El conductor llegó perfectamente a tiempo y despegamos inmediatamente sin tener que recoger pasajeros de otros hoteles primero.El conductor Miguel fue muy informativo y disfrutamos de muchas narraciones interesantes en el camino. También fue agradable que tomó una ruta diferente y muy pintoresca en el viaje de regreso, así que pudimos ver la terrible devastación de la erupción del Volcán Fuego en 2018.¡Ronal, nuestro guía local en Pacaya fue fenomenal! Communicating with Alex was seamless, he responds quickly to text messages quickly and promptly. There was a slight miscommunication and he quickly addressed the matter and everything was resolved. He and his team are very patient and very accommodating, while there, I genuinely felt as if I was part of their family. I will say that all of my tours were in Spanish and my driver only spoke Spanish as well so be sure to let them know if you need services in Engish and see if they are available. Abzocke!! Wir haben eine recht lange Tour bei Alex gebucht (Antigua - Semuc Champey - Flores - Belize City - Caye Caulker - Flores - Guatemala City - Antigua) und können nur jedem abraten, dasselbe zu tun! Anfangs wirkte alles sehr professionell und Alex versuchte, auf unsere Wünsche einzugehen. Auch aufgrund der zahlreichen positiven Bewertungen entschieden wir uns letztendlich zur Buchung. Hier fiel uns allerdings schon auf, dass Alex uns einen höheren Preis nannte gegenüber den Preisen, die er uns anfangs bei einem unverbindlichen Gespräch genannt hatte. Dementsprechend entschieden wir uns dazu, zunächst einmal nur die Busse, nicht jedoch mögliche Hotels und Touren bei ihm zu buchen, was sich als goldrichtig erwies, da er diese zu völlig überteuerten Preisen angeboten hatte. Allerdings mussten wir während unserer Reise feststellen, dass selbst die Busse noch deutlich überteuert waren und wir fast doppelt so viel für sie gezahlt hatten, als wir es getan hätten, wenn wir sie jeweils vor Ort gebucht hätten. Natürlich ist dies auch zu einem gewissen Grad unser eigenen Fehler, da wir uns besser hätten informieren müssen. Da Alex uns jedoch weismachte, dass die Busse zu dieser Jahreszeit (Dezember) schnell ausgebucht seien und wir besser im Voraus buchen sollten, haben wir auf seinen Rat vertraut und gebucht. Dies wäre definitiv nicht nötig gewesen, da wir auf der Reise unzählige andere Backpacker getroffen haben, die ihre Tickets jeweils problemlos erst einen Tag vorher vor Ort gekauft hatten. Dass Alex die Tickets zu teuer verkauft hatte, fiel uns zumindest bei dem Fährticket von Belize City nach Caye Caulker im Vorfeld auf. Er verlangte für eine einfache Fahrt 30US$ pro Person (normalerweise kosten Hin- und Rückfahrt pro Person 30BZ$, also 15US$!!). Dieses Geld verlangten wir von ihm zurück, was er uns nach einigem Verhandeln auch zusicherte, uns dann jedoch immer wieder vertröstete. Insgesamt fünfmal mussten wir anschließend bei seiner Agentur aufkreuzen, ehe er uns das Geld dann tatsächlich auch erstattete - Zeit und Nerven, die man sich definitiv hätte sparen können. Noch schlimmer war jedoch, dass Alex die Busse über die Agentur „Fuente del Norte“ bucht, die nachgewiesenermaßen auch von anderen Reisenden sehr schlechte Bewertungen erhalten hat. Auch wir haben vornehmlich schlechte Erfahrungen mit dieser Agentur gemacht, da Verspätungen von über 2 Stunden keine Seltenheit waren und das Personal alles andere als freundlich und zuverlässig war. All das wurde jedoch als völlig selbstverständlich hingenommen und Nachfragen wurden genervt abgewimmelt. Natürlich reden wir hier von Guatemala, wo Verspätungen bis zu einem gewissen Rahmen normal sind und dazu gehören. Regelmäßige Verspätungen von über 2 Stunden sind aus unserer Sicht jedoch nicht vertretbar, vor allem dann nicht, wenn man Anschlussbusse bekommen muss, die nicht auf einen warten, oder wenn man ohnehin schon nur wenig Zeit für die jeweiligen Reiseziele hat. Hinzu kommt, dass Alex es versäumt hatte, eine Buchung - wie bereits einige Wochen vorher abgesprochen und auf unserem Ticket vermerkt - von 5am auf 8am zu ändern. Dementsprechend klingelte unsere Hotelrezeption uns aus dem Bett mit der Frage, wo wir denn blieben, weil unser Bus warten würde. Ehe dieses Chaos aufgeklärt und der neue Bus organisiert war, ließen wir erneut nicht nur Nerven, sondern vor allem auch wertvolle Zeit liegen. Positiv muss angemerkt werden, dass Alex zumindest immer über WhatsApp erreichbar war, allerdings entschädigt dies keinesfalls für die genannten Unannehmlichkeiten. Wir können wirklich nur jedem abraten, mit Alex zu buchen!!! Lieber auf kleinere Agenturen zurückgreifen, die vielleicht unscheinbarer sind, aber dafür zuverlässiger und zu faireren Preisen arbeiten. We did the nightly trip on vlocano acatenango and it was absolutely worth it! We saw a nice sunrise and the volcano errupted twice.

Everything was well organized, from the pick up to the guide service, to the return journey. We were so impressed that we booked our shuttle service to Lake Atitlan with his company as well. Again, it was a smooth sailing experience - no delays and a very comfortable ride. If we return to Antigua we will definitely go straight to Alex again! Less
