A Shift in Being isn’t just another coaching book full of models and techniques. It has changed the place inside me from which I coach. I have also taken the 9 practices to my life.Leon VanderPol puts words to something many of us sense but don’t fully know how to access: a way of working that is slower, deeper and grounded in presence rather than performance. The ideas in the book came fully alive for me while doing his Deep Coaching course, but the text stands on its own. It’s clear, spacious and surprisingly practical for a book that talks so much about being, Spirit and consciousness. What I value most is how honestly Leon describes the inner journey of the coach. He gently exposes our tendency to push for outcomes, stay in the head, or rush to fix, and then shows another way:slowing down enough to really feel and listenletting go of our agendas so the client’s deeper wisdom can leadcreating spaces that are truly safe and healingtrusting the mystery of transformation instead of trying to control itThe nine practices are things I now keep returning to, both in my work and in my own life. They’ve helped me listen differently, hold silence with more confidence, and allow sessions to unfold more organically instead of forcing them in a certain direction. If you sense that goal‑driven, solution‑focused coaching doesn’t reach the depth your clients (and you) are longing for, this book is a very good place to start. It’s one of the few books I know I’ll keep on my desk and revisit for years.
