Dr McClaren is the best doctor I have ever seen in either the traditional or non traditional sense of the word. I have POTS and several other overlapping conditions/ complexities and have been his patient for 4 years. I am alive today because of him. He is an empath, a healer and I can't even begin to describe how much he has helped me in managing my symptoms. He has guided me back to myself and helped me navigate the most debilitating flare I have ever had (I couldn't walk or even stand without assistance at one point). Most doctors are trained to identify, label, and treat symptoms- generally with medication. They don't address the underlying causes of a condition or how all the pieces fit together. Dr MCClaren thinks in systems, feedback loops and overlapping concepts: Addressing physiology, anatomy, environment, trauma, and lived experiences.People like me who live with complex crossover conditions become the most perceptive observers of our own bodies because we have to. We are failed by doctors time And time again so we must become experts on ourselves and our conditions. Most medical systems prioritize hierarchy and protocol. Patient self awareness and self advocacy are seen as disruptions rather than valuable contributions to the healing process and are met with resistance instead of respect. Dr McClaren is what every patient hopes to find in their doctor- someone who treats you as a whole person with their whole heart.Dr McClaren is not dismissing medicine, he is expanding it. He seamlessly fills in the gaps and creates bridges where typical medical systems fall short. He represents the necessary modern bridge between patient reality and provider knowledge. He is open and secure enough to listen. I am not a threat, but an asset. He sees my complexities as a challenge and a puzzle and has never made me feel like I'm too much or that I am crazy. His abilities to recognize patterns and context and see reason and nuance in my symptoms is extremely validating. He articulates things no one else has ever been able to (including the Mayo Clinic). He has taught me more about my POTS and myself than any other doctor or resource I've ever found. He continually seeks knowledge and is always learning new ways to help his patients and ad tools to his toolbox. Needless to say, I am so grateful for his help!
