I wasn't excited to design and go through the pool buying process with companies -- heard too many horror stories about high pricing, poor communication and/or questionable crews in general. So I cast a pretty wide net (I'm in Pearland) to make sure I found the right fit. Sunset Pools service was exceptional! From the initial consultation/design with Felipe (he even stocked up on white Monster energy drinks in the showroom because I mentioned in conversation that I liked them) to the final touches, they were professional, friendly, and responsive. Felipe sure was a wizard with that design program and had plenty of ideas we hadn't thought of! After signature, you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you don't personally request Frank as your Project/Construction Manager. I'm serious. He's knowledgeable, over communicates and most importantly, he was always available to take my call to answer any questions. Every pool company is amazing before you write that check -- Frank's work with his crews and communication with me was the biggest reason I knew I picked the right shop. Dude is a machine and takes all worries away. Aside from the above, some big perks that were underrated in this process with Sunset was their flexibility working with and in Pearland and the 3-YEAR (vs most 1-year) warranty on their equipment and labor. Sunset did a great job building our pool. They did everything they said they would do, and the crews were clean and efficient. Our project manager, Frank, stayed on top of everything from start to finish. He was very responsive to all texts and emails throughout the process. We were very involved with multiple questions and concerns, and Frank handled them all. Most of our concerns were from lack of knowledge of the process. In the event there was an issue, including minor grouting issues or a tile we didn't like, Sunset addressed it. In the rare event Frank wasn't available, Kevin, the pool designer, stepped in and helped out. When it came time to install the pebble tech, Kevin took time and toured us to multiple pools in the area to see the colors away from the show room and websites. We also received weekly emails on scheduling and what to expect during each week. Weather permitting, Sunset worked quickly. Our project started in late April and was completed by mid June. We had a few follow up questions once the pool was completed, and Frank came by again to discuss. Payments are due in installments and based on the schedule provided in the email received each week. 5% is due upfront at signing, followed by 20%, 50%, 20%, and the final 5% was due on the final completion date. Lastly, if you are going to build a pool, factor in additional costs such as landscaping and gas meter upgrades. Sunset did replace/fix irrigation and sod that was destroyed, but anything else is additional cost. All of this was discussed upfront with Kevin before we signed the contract. Less

We are a repeat customer. After we moved away from our first pool, we didn’t shop around just called Kevin and said “Let’s do it again!” Their design is thorough, accurate and they include what you don’t even know to ask for. They work with you to stay on budget and give hi/ low options for a customized look. They use high end materials that hold up to the elements and they even went outside their suppliers to buy a specific tile I wanted. Their install is quality. They use the right equipment and don’t take shortcuts. They have an app that shows you everything that is scheduled for the week and Ricky was always on site checking up on trades. Their carpenter is incredible and meticulous. All that is nice but when they all go away, what you are left with is what matters. A Sunset pool just looks better than other pools. The workmanship holds up over the years (our first pool looked brand new after 4 years). The equipment does all the work for you with automatic freeze protection, and an app you can control from your phone. They keep in touch with you for warranty work and check in to tell you how to prep for unexpected weather, etc. I would never use another company. Stop your search and call them! Less

Our pool building journey started at the end of the summer 2020. We met Kevin, and from our first meeting we were hooked. He listened to all our requests and put together a gorgeous functional pool design that filled every box in our list. We interviewed three contractors and chose Sunset because they presented the best design.We were given a construction schedule and after hearing horror stories from friends and their pool project. We are happy to say Sunset delivered on time every time. There were issues like in any building project. However, Sunset’s team was able to work the issues through. Tory the scheduling girl kept us informed through COVID and all. We had a few delays at the end, but they still kept their finish day. Digging started the day before thanksgiving and we were swimming by first week of March, because it was freezing in February. Our pool was up and running the weekend before the freeze in February 2021.We are happy clients and will definitely recommend Sunset to friends and family. Less

We engaged with Sunset Pools to do redo our whole backyard (leveling it out, putting in drainage, and adding landscaping), put in a pergola, and of course put in a pool! We had a great experience with Sunset in all phases of the project. They communicated fully and clearly each step of the way, and when there were obstacles (like a city permitting process that has so much bureaucracy!) they patiently worked through them and got everything done in such a high quality way. We chose Sunset Pools after a lengthy process of interviewing many pool builders in the area. While I don’t recall the exact number of candidates that we considered, it was easily a dozen or so. From the getgo, Sunset Pools stood out from the rest of the pack. Our initial design was of a free form pool with rock outcrops around it. After spending time with Kevin Knott to discuss our project, he asked for permission to show us something “different” that was more based on his perceptions of our style and other home decor choices. He came back with a rectangular design that was more of a modern look. We absolutely loved it and quickly abandoned our original design.Building a pool can be a stressful event for a family. There are many bumps in the road and things that you will consider and reconsider. Which company you chose to partner with should absolutely not be one of them.Sunset Pools is a class act operation. When issues arose or changes in the design plan were needed, they were extremely quick to respond and made it feel as though we were their only customer. Kevin stayed with us throughout the process with their project managers (George and Ricky), being very present at all stages of the build. Sunset Pools' staff was professional from start to finish. We started the process working with Kevin who did an absolutely amazing job designing our pool and patio. He thought about the little details we hadn't even thought of. He walked us through the design and picking out tile, etc. He was very responsive and always had an answer to our questions. Our project manager, Ricky, worked with us along the way. He was very present at the job site, there to answer questions and check on the various crews who were working. He made sure everything was done not only correctly, but to our liking. He was very reachable and made us feel comfortable leaving our home each day to the construction. Maria was in charge of most of the scheduling throughout our project. She was very responsive and kept us informed about who would be out working each day. She was such a helpful part of the process. Sunset Pools is top-notch. I interviewed 5 of the top-rated pool companies in Texas and US that are available for build in Katy. Most were good. But Sunset Pools went beyond with their excellent communications with me. They were not overbearing or high pressure. The design of our pool was great and we were given pros and cons for each item for consideration. Eric Brasseux was our designer and he was excellent from beginning to end. George Tovar was the construction supervisor and he showed up daily checking all aspects of the work and ensuring quality and craftsmanship was on par - very pleasant to work with and highly professional. From beginning to end, we have no doubt our decision was the right one. The equipment is the best in the industry - I know, I spent a lot of time reading online reviews by professionals. Sunset did a very nice job on our fairly large and somewhat complex pool. Tanr did an amazing and very creative design that fit our home layout just perfectly - elegant, but simple and functional. The lighting plan has proven to be particularly awesome. The CAD drawings and video renderings helped us catch the vision of building something quite special. We were on a tight timeline to get the pool in and finished, but without sacrificing quality at all. The communications process was very solid during the life of the project. The complete project plan and timeline I received at the front end was very helpful (although I suspect at times they wished they hadn't sent that to me). Most days I received an update, and if something was not going to completed on the assigned day I was normally notified promptly. These projects are all about managing expectations of the client, and Sunset did a nice job with that. Because of thorough planning and discussion on the front end design, we did not have any change orders. The project therefore came in on budget and on their original timeline (not on my unrealistic timeline - which I knew). We were blessed with only losing 2 days or so due to weather over the 12 week project, but also lost some time because of overly nit-picky inspectors. Despite that, overall, still on time. Sunset was not the least expensive option. But if you are investing in a pool at the levels we did, quality/quality/quality and no surprises were key for us. I have been quite pleased with the quality thus far. The job supervisor was visible and present on the critical days in particular when the most things could go wrong or be done wrong by the subs. Our pool has been completely finished now for about 5 weeks with no material issues. On the minor ones, they have responded quickly and efficiently with no hesitation. Pools are quite high tech now, and it took a bit to work out some gremlins in the Pentair app and integrating it into our smart home automation system. In the end though, nothing out of the ordinary burn-in process. You always worry once the vendor gets fully paid if they will be unresponsive - I have not found that to be the case with Sunset. Those who have seen the pool and lighting (augmented by a nice landscape plan - not done by Sunset) have said it is perhaps the nicest pool they have ever seen. We agree, and we recommend Sunset to others. Less
