Aside from the above, some big perks that were underrated in this process with Sunset was their flexibility working with and in Pearland and the 3-YEAR (vs most 1-year) warranty on their equipment and labor. When they came to my home to evaluate the pool tile repair I was told it was too small a job for them. They offered me two names of people they work with who work on tile. He came to evaluate my pool- no official measurements were made and no agreement but Robert the person sunset referred to me sent a demo crew to my home without my knowledge or consent; by mistake he said, while I was away from home. They drained the pool and chopped up my plaster. Long story short, Robert did not repair the plaster damage or reimburse us for having to replaster a 7 year old pool. Sunset would not provide any assistance or come out to evaluate to help Me come up with a plan to remediate. I even told sunset I did not expect them to replace my plaster but needed guidance and help as they referred me to Robert and I needed a plan to repair the damage. They left me high and dry and said they would not have anything to do with the situation and the co facts they referred me to were not sunset employees. This is not how you treat customers and former customers. Incredibly frustrated and disappointed and would not recommend this company for any project based. No integrity. Less

In summary, Sunset may not be the lowest cost pool builder but they are a good value. They upheld a high level of integrity, quality of workmanship, and responsiveness to my requests and concerns. Sunset did a great job building our pool. They did everything they said they would do, and the crews were clean and efficient. Our project manager, Frank, stayed on top of everything from start to finish. He was very responsive to all texts and emails throughout the process. We were very involved with multiple questions and concerns, and Frank handled them all. Most of our concerns were from lack of knowledge of the process. In the event there was an issue, including minor grouting issues or a tile we didn't like, Sunset addressed it. In the rare event Frank wasn't available, Kevin, the pool designer, stepped in and helped out. When it came time to install the pebble tech, Kevin took time and toured us to multiple pools in the area to see the colors away from the show room and websites. We also received weekly emails on scheduling and what to expect during each week. Weather permitting, Sunset worked quickly. Our project started in late April and was completed by mid June. We had a few follow up questions once the pool was completed, and Frank came by again to discuss. Payments are due in installments and based on the schedule provided in the email received each week. 5% is due upfront at signing, followed by 20%, 50%, 20%, and the final 5% was due on the final completion date. Lastly, if you are going to build a pool, factor in additional costs such as landscaping and gas meter upgrades. Sunset did replace/fix irrigation and sod that was destroyed, but anything else is additional cost. All of this was discussed upfront with Kevin before we signed the contract. Less

He listened to all our requests and put together a gorgeous functional pool design that filled every box in our list. We interviewed three contractors and chose Sunset because they presented the best design. We were given a construction schedule and after hearing horror stories from friends and their pool project. We are happy to say Sunset delivered on time every time. There were issues like in any building project. However, Sunset’s team was able to work the issues through. Tory the scheduling girl kept us informed through COVID and all. We had a few delays at the end, but they still kept their finish day. Digging started the day before thanksgiving and we were swimming by first week of March, because it was freezing in February. Our pool was up and running the weekend before the freeze in February 2021. We are happy clients and will definitely recommend Sunset to friends and family. Less

Made an appointment for a consultation with Taylor. She didn’t show up. Called the office after 20 minutes and when she returned my call, told me she was busy and it slipped her mind. Not interested in giving this large of a project to a company with such an apparent lack of professionalism. Made an appointment for a consultation with Taylor. She didn’t show up. Called the office after 20 minutes and when she returned my call, told me she was busy and it slipped her mind. Not interested in giving this large of a project to a company with such an apparent lack of professionalism. Running late is normal, not notifying your customer is rude, but “slipped my mind” is ridiculous. I checked the lowest budget bracket on their contact form so I suppose I wasn’t worth their time. Don’t waste your time with this company. Can't respond to their response 4 months later... but I was at the grocery store? What? That doesn't make any sense. She took pictures of our house and yard so the software pool designs she created were so helpful in making our final pool/outdoor kitchen placement decisions. Tori was always helpful during the scheduling process and Will, our build manager kept us informed and spotted a mistake that we didn’t notice and had it fixed right away! We built during the height of an unprecedented pool building season in addition to the Covid outbreak. We paid 120k for the project, which does not include the cost of a leaky pool, fixing the gas fireplace and replacing the spa tiles. Run run from this scam of a company. From the getgo, Sunset Pools stood out from the rest of the pack. Our initial design was of a free form pool with rock outcrops around it. After spending time with Kevin Knott to discuss our project, he asked for permission to show us something “different” that was more based on his perceptions of our style and other home decor choices. He came back with a rectangular design that was more of a modern look. We absolutely loved it and quickly abandoned our original design. Building a pool can be a stressful event for a family. There are many bumps in the road and things that you will consider and reconsider. Which company you chose to partner with should absolutely not be one of them. Sunset Pools is a class act operation. When issues arose or changes in the design plan were needed, they were extremely quick to respond and made it feel as though we were their only customer. Kevin stayed with us throughout the process with their project managers (George and Ricky), being very present at all stages of the build. George was our primary guy and was absolutely amazing with keeping us confident that the job will be done right. He showed up every single day that we had contractors at our house and this often included Saturdays. We are especially grateful for him and his work ethic. Just a wonderful person to work with on the day to day build tasks and always had a client centric approach to working with us. Jessica Essner and Sarah Whitehead were our Production Managers and Service Coordinators. Both were absolutely laser focused on timely follow-up updates and keeping us in the know on the scheduling of work to be done. Their friendly demeanor and customer service skills were an absolutely refreshing experience for my wife and I. They tackled problems as they arose and when there were realizations of design items that were originally overlooked, they were strong advocates for us and 100% of the time, Sunset Pools owned the responsibility and took steps to make things perfect. With weather and build setbacks, it took us a while to complete our project but as I type this review, I am very happy to say that our pool project is officially DONE! We love our pool and the backyard oasis that Sunset Pools helped us to create. We are proud of our decision to partner with them and highly recommend their work to anyone who is considering a backyard/pool project. If you are one of them, do yourself a favor and stop shopping based solely on price and move builder reputation to the top of your consideration criteria list. Sunset did a very nice job on our fairly large and somewhat complex pool. Tanr did an amazing and very creative design that fit our home layout just perfectly - elegant, but simple and functional. The lighting plan has proven to be particularly awesome. The CAD drawings and video renderings helped us catch the vision of building something quite special. We were on a tight timeline to get the pool in and finished, but without sacrificing quality at all. The communications process was very solid during the life of the project. The complete project plan and timeline I received at the front end was very helpful (although I suspect at times they wished they hadn't sent that to me). Most days I received an update, and if something was not going to completed on the assigned day I was normally notified promptly. These projects are all about managing expectations of the client, and Sunset did a nice job with that. Because of thorough planning and discussion on the front end design, we did not have any change orders. The project therefore came in on budget and on their original timeline (not on my unrealistic timeline - which I knew). We were blessed with only losing 2 days or so due to weather over the 12 week project, but also lost some time because of overly nit-picky inspectors. Despite that, overall, still on time. Sunset was not the least expensive option. But if you are investing in a pool at the levels we did, quality/quality/quality and no surprises were key for us. I have been quite pleased with the quality thus far. The job supervisor was visible and present on the critical days in particular when the most things could go wrong or be done wrong by the subs. Our pool has been completely finished now for about 5 weeks with no material issues. On the minor ones, they have responded quickly and efficiently with no hesitation. Pools are quite high tech now, and it took a bit to work out some gremlins in the Pentair app and integrating it into our smart home automation system. In the end though, nothing out of the ordinary burn-in process. You always worry once the vendor gets fully paid if they will be unresponsive - I have not found that to be the case with Sunset. Those who have seen the pool and lighting (augmented by a nice landscape plan - not done by Sunset) have said it is perhaps the nicest pool they have ever seen. We agree, and we recommend Sunset to others. Less

WORST construction project/customer service experience for us to date. (And that’s a bold statement seeing as how our family ended up in the hospital with carbon monoxide poisoning with our last home build). What was supposed to be a 6 week long outdoor kitchen addition turned in to a 5 month long nightmare. Everything from our yard being turned in to a trash dump which attracted rodents, contractors used our pool equipment pad, stucco and fence as a toilet for months, damaged sprinklers and landscape lighting, they built a raised deck over existing sprinklers, destroyed our hardscaping and left the mess, etc. HOWEVER, the most upsetting was that they completely destroyed our existing white limestone patio and still in the end expected full payment! It has cost us a fortune to clean and repair the overwhelming mess they left behind. The owner of Sunset Pools shows very little regard when there are problems and doesn’t want to deal with them. It was mind blowing to see how they run their business! As business owners ourselves, we would never dream of treating our clients this way. So anyone in the Katy/Houston area looking to build a pool or outdoor kitchen beware! My biggest regret in all of this was not listening to the warnings we got from many others about this company. But afterwards once we started having some normal issues, it has taken MONTHS for them to come back out to fix simple issues. They have sent three different crews out to fix the patio they installed, and once someone finally came out to fix it, they broke the auto fill drain and didn't bother to turn off the water before they left. If my wife hadn't found it, it would have overfilled the pool because leaves were blocking the drain. I can't believe we spent such an exorbitant amount of money for this kind of service. I have no doubt that if it took 20 times to get it right, they would come out, BUT THEY WOULD HAVE TO COME OUT 20 TIMES with us hovering over them before they do it right. And to top it all off, we have other things that need repair once they finish with the patio. Hopefully, by next summer my family can enjoy our pool. Less

Not a single person has seen his creation that has not practically demanded his contact information. Chuck owned the building process. It was personal for him. Everything had to be perfect. He went out of his way on many an occasion to make sure we were beyond pleased. No task was too big or too small, and no time was an inconvenience. We were a priority and it was felt. As many pool builds as we knew Chuck was responsible for, we felt as though ours was the only one. Jessica was extremely responsive and proactive. I received daily emails updating me on the status of the build ~ something I requested since good communication was of great importance to me. When there were delays (weather or otherwise) she was quick to notify me. Any of our concerns became her concerns and nothing less than our complete satisfaction would satisfy her. We decided to go with a geometrical pool shape, but that wasn’t just it. They truly let us decide what we wanted and worked around our choices. The outdoor kitchen and appliances are top notch. The finish, the quality of the process from top to bottom was outstanding. From plumbers, to electricians, to masons… everyone was professional and quality conscious. Eric Brasseux, our sales rep, and Chuck Ratcliffe, our product manager, were both knowledgeable, caring, and really wanted us to select what would make us happy in the end. Eric even took us out to look at other pools and backyards to compare our “in-office” selections with what they would actually look like outdoors to give us a better idea of colors, styles, etc. They also showed us how to use Buildertrend. Buildertrend is an app that allows us to follow the construction process day by day and week by week. The app would be constantly updated to show what was scheduled for completion in any particular week. This was a free service provided by Sunset Pools, which was another reason we decided to go with them. After our project was completed, Chuck showed us how to use ScreenLogic. ScreenLogic is another app that allows us to control all pool functionalities, from temperature, to the spa, to lights, to cleaning, etc. This was truly a wonderful overall experience and I would recommend Sunset Pools to anyone who is looking to transform their backyard into a dream living space.
