Just moved to Bloomington. First time at Blu Boy. I suppose this place might be popular with UI students, but certainly not a "hang-out." Super cute shop. Tasty coffee and treats! We went for ice cream but was out so we got some other treats to try that were wonderful.Only four stars because even though the staff member was pleasant and the food/coffee was yummy. There was an issue with mis labeling and I asked to get the correct item I wanted but was denied. To further explain there was a shelf to the left when you walked in of pre packaged chocolate treats. I saw a sign that said mint chocolate. Above the sign was a stack of square chocolates inside the bag. You would assume with it being above mint it would be mint. I spent basically $10 on this little bundle. I go one out to add to my coffee and took one to eat. I could tell the ones I bit into werent mint at all. I mentioned it to the cashier and they said sorry I think someone mislabeled it. Fixed it on the shelf but didn't offer anything in replacement of the mistake. I tried not to be bothered by it but its not like it was a $1 item I spent almost $10 bucks on the wrong item. So I asked if I could replace it with the correct one and they said no since I opened it... Which like I understand but that was the only reason why I knew it was wrong.... My friend spoke up for me (I have social anxiety so it was already hard enough to mention it twice so I was done) asked since it was mislabeled could I get something to rectify the issue and the cashier still said no.So all this to stay make sure to check the pre packaged items to make sure you get what you are wanting. The chocolate is good but I wouldn't have bought it for that price for just plain ol dark chocolate.The coffee was great! Tried my friend lumberjack and I got the snowman! Def reccomend! Less

Very nice employees. The cheesecake is not that good (strong with the sour cream). The Chia tastes like milk with a hint of Chia. The auto response is to make it iced, they didn't have enough Chia to remake it. My wife said the iced mocha was okay Less

I purchased a "custom" birthday cake from Blu Boy Chocolate this past weekend for a family member whom we were celebrating in Bloomington, IN. Ingredients and construct of the cake I ordered were suggested to me by the Blu Boy employee on the phone taking my order and it was expected to be made from fresh and high-quality ingredients. Unfortunately, what Blu Boy sold us had a foul taste and awful consistency and was likely reconstituted from previously frozen products. When it was time to serve the birthday cake, each dinner guest could barely stand the first bite before putting their fork down and pushing the cake plate away. I couldn't even give the cake away as the taste was too offensive. I was forced to throw the cake in the garbage and wish I had bought a generic cake from Kroger or similar (would have been 1/5 the price and made with fresh dessert ingredients). I contacted Blu Boy twice shortly after the distasteful experience and the owners, Jeff and Judy, wouldn't even return my call. Needless to say, you should avoid purchasing cakes from Blu Boy Chocolate... Less

Best chocolate in town. Accessible hours and the staff is always on top of it. The only thing I don’t like is the papyrus font lol. I don’t trust papyrus in general but they’re actually solid. Less

However, it does tend to get busy and they were understaffed--they had one young lady trying to do everything and we had to wait at least 20 minutes before our order was complete. I hope that was just fluke, because I would still recommend trying the turtle or cookie sundae. They currently have the street blocked off and it would be a nice place to go outdoors to eat/hangout. I don’t know if I just caught them on a bad day but everything I tried was bad or mediocre/over priced. I’ve never had a bad macaron until I tried the ones here. One was extremely chewy and had way too much coconut extract and the other had the texture of a cracker and had no flavor at all. The dark chocolate brownie was horrible. The crème brûlée was good but the employee who packaged mine didn’t bother to actually torch the top. So it was really just custard. Also way over priced for what they give you. My total was almost $30, plus I tipped $3 in cash. Totally not worth it and I won’t be back. Less

I tried three different items. One was pretty good, one was okay, and the other wasn't good at all. The one that was good had great taste, texture, moisture, and balance of sweetness. I've had a good cup of tea from this place, but they can't make a decent cup of hot chocolate. The server boasted about their method of melting solid chocolate, which sounded rich and delicious! She must have used unsweetened chocolate though, because all three of our drinks were terribly bitter. After paying $15 for three drinks and leaving a 20% tip, we were told "That's just the way we do it". Plus, the drinks weren't even hot enough to melt sugar to sweeten them up. The sugar just settled on the bottom. We left our drinks on the counter. Very disappointing on my daughter's birthday. Less

All I can say is WOW!! I've had cupcakes from this bakery before that were 🔥🔥🔥 After enjoying a delicious lunch with one of my best friends I decided to stop in here and grab some of these delectable chocolates. It was very difficult to decide which ones to get as they have a lot of options. I went for the 10 chocolate gift box (though the gift is for me 😎). They are not cheap, but I really wanted to try these, particularly because they have such a unique choice flavors. They gave me a free chocolate since I had so much trouble deciding which chocolate to choose for the last one. Also, if you bring your box back in the next time they will give you a free chocolate. Meaning if I bring my box that holds 10 chocolates in and buy 10 more I will get 11.I decided to try the blueberry and the mint. OMG! It is almost impossible to choose which one is better. They are both so good! I tried the blueberry first and then finished with the mint. I am very very happy. I will update as I try the other flavors. Less

Lukewarm coffee, the ice cream tasted like there was sawdust in it, burnt hard as rock cookies that have a sticker on them saying good for 3 more days (which is insane for a bakery), and the other two items were just okay and didn’t really have any flavor. I tried super hard to like this place and give it a chance because it’s cute but truthfully every item we ordered was not good. :( Less

Cute cafe nook. Coffee is priced competitively and was on par with many other cafes. Taste was smooth and rich. Overall, most items feel overpriced but were worth the splurge. Seating is minimal so don't plan on taking a group of 4 or more here. Chocolates are beautiful and elegant looking. Exotic flavors available are a plus! Macarons are the traditional dessert flare that pair well with any coffee. The best part of the entire experience was their chocolate. $6 for 2 pieces, $11 for 5 pieces, and so on. Expensive. Worth a try. I loved the Lavender and dulche de luche. Good quality choclates but not so much that I would spend the money for them again. Less

We went to grab some coffee and tea, but ended up getting cake, truffles, and chocolates!My earl grey was delicious, but my friend’s americano was cool, not warm.The chocolates were amazing, with the raspberry truffle being the best. We could count taste the paw paw/banana in that chocolate, but the milk chocolate overall is delicious.The cake was very dense, and the frosting was delicious. It was honey orange blossom and flavors were identifiable. Overall, we were happy with our experience! Less

They're especially perfect as gifts (I've gifted them to multiple people), as they have nice designs on them and can be gift wrapped. I actually really love Blu Boy, but I was very disappointed in the cake we purchased for my mother-in-law's birthday. We ordered the vanilla berry. The icing and decoration were delicious and very well done. It was a beautiful cake. The sponge itself though was really dense. It detracted seriously from the overall experience. I guess it was overmixed causing the cake to collapse. It did have a bit of a dip in the top layer indicating a fall. Ultimately, this very extravagant splurge for her 80th birthday was a disappointment. Less
