Oh my gosh, what a great experience!!!! I stumbled upon this place searching for someone who can help out with a mountain bike injury I obtained a few months ago that won’t seem to get better. When I showed up I noticed the super clean / tidy environment and was promptly greeted and welcomed in. They not only have massage rooms but also an entire PT room full of all the corrective goodies plus a full time physical trainer! Jerry did my deep tissue massage. It was honestly exactly what I needed. He initially asked what my concerns were and how he could be a part of helping me be pain free. I’m posting here to tell you how Macro changed my life. In 2013 I found myself playing on the ASU Rugby team in Tempe, AZ, still healing from a pretty bad shoulder tear from the tail-end of my high school wrestling career. I was happy to find a home on the rugby team, and went forward in games and practices with my hurt shoulder. After repeated dislocations started to cause worse and worse damage, I knew I had to start looking at options for surgery. I received arthroscopic surgery on my right side shoulder and was encouraged to not do any physical therapy or progressive physical work on my shoulder at all… JUST to let it heal. I listened to the advice given by my surgeon and doctor, and proceeded to jump back into rugby after about 5 months; a little too soon, it turned out. I re-tore everything and was told I would never play rugby again. I ended up getting something called a Latarjet Procedure done on my shoulder where they essentially cut part of my existing bone off my corocoid process to act as a closed “trap door” locking the joint in place with two inch long steel screws. In my mind I still had two more years of rugby left to play in my college career, and was teetering on the realm of hopelessness…After asking around, my cousin’s husband, Phillip, referred me to an organization called Macro. Phil was (still is) an avid hockey player in his late 40s and someone whom I trusted deeply with this stuff. He urged me to go see this guy who “usually works on older patients” but has transformed his knee through breakthrough physical and massage therapy methods like he hasn’t seen before; allowing him to play and feel how he did on the ice when he was much younger. After hearing all of this, I decided to jump in with everything I had. I remember walking into MacroTherapy to meet him, immediately impressed with the clean and professional atmosphere I found inside. I walked up to the front desk and spoke with his wife (I didn’t know it at the time) and was met with a contagious, welcoming smile and urged to make myself at home while he made his way out. The founder and owner of Macro walked out to greet me with the confidence of a Doctor and the physique of a professional fighter. It was immediately very obvious to me how much happiness and pride he took in his work. It was healing energy. After introducing ourselves, I start pouring my heart out to him: Wrestling, rugby, two reconstructive surgeries, two years left on the team… he listened intently, smiled at me and said “we’ll fix your shoulder. And if you trust me and work with me through all of this until the end, it won’t only be fixed. It’ll be stronger than your other one.” The next 8-10 months we were on a mission to create a bionic shoulder out of the pieces left behind, against all odds. He and his team worked with me as I battled through my insurance, coming in twice a week on a consistent basis. One hour physical therapy to strengthen the muscles, one hour deep tissue massage to break up the scar tissue… I started to become more and more motivated as I saw progress. “Trust me” was all I needed to hear from this guy. At the end of it, I was almost saddened to leave. I made a new friend (among a few) and felt bulletproof jumping back into rugby. I went on to make my varsity team senior year and play in the PAC-12 Championships. He, his wife, and their two little daughters even came out to watch me play a home game once. I am currently a Firefighter for West Metro Fire Rescue in Denver, CO and my shoulder continues to prove to me that it can get the job done everyday. And although I am approaching eight years since my time at MacroTherapy, he and his family still continue to check in on me to see how I’m doing. They’re my family now too. Less
