Floatwell

Had a wonderful relaxing experience at Floatwell today. I have never floated before, and went along with a friend to try it out. We were welcomed by James with a calming cup of herbal tea, then Freya showed us the sauna and float rooms. We had a sauna together first - which was a little warm for us both at first, but we could adjust the temperature to suit us better. We then went to separate rooms for our floats. The float pods are large enough to comfortably accommodate a tall person of 6 foot or more. The water is body temperature, about a foot deep, and infused with Epsom salts to that you float almost on top of the water rather than it. Getting in is like getting into a large bath. You pull a lid down once you get in so that you are completely cocooned. It wasn't claustrophobic because the ceiling is quite high, there is plenty of room, and you can open the lid whenever you want. You lie back in the water with a support for your head and listen to the soothing sounds of beach and sea noises as you drift. You can change the lights to dancing colours, cool blue or darkness. After a while the soothing sounds stop and for the next 50 minutes or so you can just float and let all your tensions ebb away into the water. It took a while for my brain to quieten down, but I think that was because the experience was so novel. Next time I will know what to expect. Eventually the beach sounds resume signalling the end of the session. The salts are quite concentrated so a shower afterwards (in the same room) is essential. We concluded with a reviving glass of water and a chat with Freya, leaving a lot more relaxed than when we arrived. A lovely experience, which I will definitely do again.
