tl;dr you will have a highly positive experience under the care of the R3 teamMy background:I've been active my whole life, never going a day without a sweat. Being active and being an athlete was a core part of my identity, and I took great pride in it. About 5 months ago, I experienced severe knee pain. It prevented me from running, cycling, swimming, and it even made sleeping difficult as I'd grimace every time I had to change positions. I did tons of research and came to the conclusion that it was probably IT band related. I read that the root causes of IT band syndrome wasn't definitive in literature and it seemed that for some, it never gets resolved. After weeks of doing the workouts and stretches that were highly recommended by others that have experienced this issue, my pain was still as debilitating as it was on day 1. I went from being able to swim, bike, and run for hours on end to not even being able to run for more than 10 minutes. I felt hopeless and depressed. My road to recovery:I started by going to a practice where one doctor was simultaneously responsible for many patients. He spent little time diagnosing the issue with my knee and jumped to a conclusion within 5 minutes: 1) IT band syndrome and 2) that my body just isn't made for running. I was then prescribed workouts and stretches, some of which were completely unsupported by modern literature. Relevant exercises that were also widely supported were completely left out. I decided that I needed to find a PT specializing in working with athletes.I came across R3 while searching online and they seemed like everything I was looking for. I scheduled a discovery call and was contacted by Mikey, the front desk & care coordinator. Mikey took the time to understand my background, my goals as an athlete, and my frustrations due to injury. From our conversation, I formed my first impression of not just Mikey but also of the practice. I could tell that the R3 team is a team of well-trained professionals committed to helping people like myself stay active and healthy.During my first visits, I worked with Dr. Julia to diagnose and treat the issues I was facing. Dr. Julia took a detailed approach in diagnosing what the issue was by assessing my symptoms, analyzing the strength/weaknesses of various muscle groups, as well as my running gait and lifting form. She walked me through targeted exercises and listened carefully to my feedback to understand what was helping and what made things worse. From there, she determined that the major contributors of my knee pain were weakness in the hips and poor running form. As the weeks passed, Dr. Julia remained consistent in prescribing exercises and routines based on my body's feedback. She always listened attentively, acted precisely based on science and evidence, and gave very clear directions on what I should be doing while explaining why it mattered. I found myself looking forward to all of my appointments because I always left as a better athlete with more knowledge about my body that I will carry for life.I truly believe the R3 team consists of the highest performers in the field. They hold themselves and their patients to the high standards required to not only overcome injury, but recover stronger. Today, I feel more capable than ever and I have the R3 team to thank. I went from injured and dejected to actively training for a full Ironman, pain free. Mikey got me through the door on day 1. Dr. Julia enabled me to swim/bike/run out and never stop.
