PSA: The restaurant adds tip to bill according to stipulations (party size 6+ OR bill $125+) This policy is outlined in TINY print on the menu. Our initial bills did not add gratuity (because they were 2 separate checks). Apparently, she was advised to add the tip when we further split one of the checks for 2 individual patrons (3 checks/4 people). So our server returned and had to explain to us when bills were presented for our signatures. Why the manager didn’t bring out the bills at this point is beyond me. We had questions. The issue was not even with the policy itself, but the surprise and the way it was presented. Transparency is putting a sign on the door or a larger notice on the menu like MANY other establishments are doing already. Or the manager should have come out when the checks were changed after delivery. Putting it on the server to explain and defend - bad form. Because some customers don’t tip? … a policy is implemented, put in tiny print, added to the bill after initial delivery, and the server is sent to explain? left a bad taste in my mouth after an otherwise enjoyable meal. our server was GREAT and she shouldn’t have the added stress of explaining management policy (about her own compensation) to anyone when such policy is not presented in a way that is transparent and informative from the front door. PLEASE do better at posting your gratuity policy - for your servers and your patrons.
