I had a deeply disappointing experience with Luminescence due to rude and dismissive customer service from Cindy, an employee or owner, I’m not sure. I had mentioned in the beginning of our conversation that my sister and I have insomnia and will be awake the whole night. To accommodate this, I had asked if we could watch downloaded content and music to pass the time without needing the wifi as it isn’t allowed in the facility which they said was okay. I was told over email that a different employee, Jean, will be “staying over” during our stay, I had assumed that that meant she will be staying over in her own room and not sharing the room with us. But no, they were just expecting that my sister and I would be watching or listening to music on our earphones for 10 hours throughout the night without talking since Jean would be sleeping in the same room as us. Even if we were okay with self entertaining the whole night with minimal whispering, some people just aren’t comfortable spending the night with a stranger like this, even if “They’re on the other side of a large room.” It’s a valid expectation to have. Doesn’t matter the reason - it could be preference, social anxiety or anything else, you never know and shouldn’t be obligated to explain yourself. When I kindly requested to cancel due to the misunderstanding after finding out this detail the day of the stay, Jean left me on read and called Cindy to explain our exchange and then Cindy called me a few minutes later. I very respectfully re-explained our hang ups and apologized for the misunderstanding and she responded with sarcasm, saying things like, “If you think this was going to be like a slumber party, that’s not the case,” and “I thought you were coming here for healing but seems like that’s not what you’re coming for.” How can you be so casually insulting to a customer and say that you think they’re not serious about their healing? Is that why you think we were going to spend $700 for our stay? These comments were not only unprofessional but offensive. On top of that, no one even acknowledged let alone apologized for the miscommunication. Cindy kept saying that it’s for security reasons, which I understand, but security can also be taken care of by an employee in a different room and by keeping cameras in the EES room if needed that can be viewed by your employee from their room. If that’s not something you thought of before or you just don’t want to do, then that’s not the customer’s fault. They shouldn’t be made to feel forced to settle with what they don’t feel comfortable, or looked down upon for wanting privacy. This could have all been avoided if they simply state on their website overnight stays are shared with another employee. We don’t mind if that’s how you choose to do things and run your operation, but there is no need to be rude about it. Even after her disrespectful comments, I kept my tone of voice very kind and said that when our insomnia is better, we will look into re-booking with you guys since then we could at least sleep through the night with the employee there. And to that she just irrelevantly repeated herself and said: “Yeah so like I said we can’t not have someone in there because of security reasons so I’ll just go ahead and cancel you for tonight”. All while her tone was disappointed, dismissive and judgemental. An empathetic reply would’ve simply been: “Sure! No problem at all, your needs are valid and we look forward to hopefully hearing back from you guys again, good luck with your insomnia and we apologize for the miscommunication. We’ll be sure to clearly let future customers know that overnight sessions will be accompanied by an employee in the room with you for security purposes.” It’s disappointing that the staff showed no empathy to even acknowledge our feelings. My family and I were excited to try this service and invest in it, but after this experience, we’ll take our healing journey to the Okotoks EES location. Less
